This is a refurbished Cisco Catalyst 3850 48 port Gigabit PoE+ switch, sold under our SKU SW-CISCO-3850-48P-POE. The Catalyst 3850 is Cisco's stackable enterprise access platform, introduced in 2013 and running Cisco IOS XE. This unit has 48 Gigabit Ethernet ports, each able to supply PoE+ power, and 4 SFP uplink ports for links to a distribution or core switch. It is a Layer 3 managed switch, so it can route between VLANs at the access layer instead of sending that traffic upstream. Installation
Mount the switch in a standard 19 inch rack using the rack brackets, and leave clear space at the front and rear so the fan modules can move air freely. The uplink ports need SFP transceivers matched to your fibre type and link distance, or copper SFPs for short runs to a nearby switch. To join an existing stack, power the new unit off, connect the stack cables so the members form a closed ring, then power it on; the stack elects an active switch and the new member takes its configuration from it. Make sure every member runs the same Cisco IOS XE release before it joins, otherwise it will not merge into the stack. The PoE budget depends on the power supply fitted, so add up the draw of your access points, phones and cameras and fit a second supply in the spare slot if you need more power or redundancy.
