DDR4 vs DDR5 Server Memory: Which Should You Buy in 2026?
DDR5 doubles bandwidth and capacity per module and is the only option on every current platform. DDR4 is...
Rail kits and rack accessories for Dell PowerEdge and HPE ProLiant servers. Rails are specific to the server model and generation, so send the model or service tag and we confirm the right kit. Held in Doha.
A rail kit is the pair of left and right rails that carries a rack server in a four-post cabinet. Inner rails bolt or clip to the server chassis, outer rails fix to the front and rear rack posts and adjust to the cabinet's depth. This range covers OEM sliding rail kits for Dell PowerEdge and HPE ProLiant servers, with shelves, cable management and other rack hardware sourced on request.
It is for anyone racking a server that arrived without rails, moving a server to a new cabinet, or replacing rails left behind in a decommissioned rack. A rack server cannot sit safely in a cabinet without the right kit.
| Server | Kit | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Dell PowerEdge R640 (1U) | Sliding rail kit, inner and outer rails | Tool-less fitting; outer rails adjust for rack depth |
| HPE ProLiant DL380 Gen9 and Gen10 (2U) | OEM sliding rail kit, left and right | Same kit covers both generations |
Sliding rails let the server be drawn forward out of the rack so the top cover can be opened for drive, memory, fan and riser work without unracking it. Static rails hold the server fixed and are lighter and cheaper, but the server has to come out of the rack for any internal work.
Rail kits are held in Doha, with delivery across Qatar typically one day, and are covered by the ServerDove warranty. Send the server model or service tag and the team will confirm the kit. For other models, shelves, cable management arms, blanking panels or PDU brackets, send the requirement by WhatsApp on +974 5521 2108, email sales@serverdove.com or use the contact page. Cabinets are in server racks; the servers themselves in servers.
Rails are specific to the server model and often the generation. The Dell R640 kit fits the R640; the HPE DL380 kit fits the DL380 Gen9 and Gen10. Send the model, or the Dell service tag or HPE serial number, and the team will name the kit. For a server not listed, the team can usually source the OEM kit.
Sliding rails let the server pull forward out of the rack like a drawer, so the lid can be opened for service with the server still mounted. Static rails fix the server in place; it must be lifted out for any internal work. Both kits in stock are sliding rails.
They are for standard 19-inch four-post racks. The outer rails adjust to the distance between the front and rear posts, within a range given in the kit's documentation. Very shallow or very deep cabinets, two-post racks and wall-mount cabinets may not suit; tell the team the cabinet model or the post-to-post depth and they will check.
Tool-less kits, such as the Dell R640 rails, clip straight into square-hole racks without screws. Where fixings are needed for round-hole or threaded racks, say so when ordering so they can be included.
Only if you want to pull the server out while it is running with the cables still connected. For a server that is powered down for service, it is not needed, and it takes up depth behind the chassis. Arms are sourced to order.
