Cisco NIM-2FXS/4FXO analogue voice network interface module, adding two FXS and four FXO ports to ISR 4000 Series routers.
The NIM-2FXS/4FXO is a Cisco Network Interface Module (NIM) for the ISR 4000 Series integrated services routers. It combines two FXS ports and four FXO ports on one card, so a single router slot provides both analogue endpoint connections and PSTN line access. FXS ports supply dial tone and ringing to analogue telephones, fax machines and similar devices. FXO ports connect to lines from a telephone exchange or carrier, so the router can act as a voice gateway between IP telephony and the PSTN. Buyers are usually branch offices and enterprises in Qatar that run Cisco voice on ISR 4000 routers and still need a few analogue lines: a fax, a lift or door phone, or backup PSTN trunks. We supply this module refurbished from Doha under our SKU MOD-CISCO-NIM-2FXS4FXO, as a spare for an existing gateway or to add analogue voice to a router already in service.

The NIM-2FXS/4FXO is a mixed analogue module: six voice ports in total, split between station-side FXS and line-side FXO. It fits a NIM slot on an ISR 4000 Series router, which supplies its power and runs its configuration under Cisco IOS XE.
Installation
The module goes into a free NIM slot on an ISR 4000 Series router. It is hot-swappable, but stop the slot from the router CLI before removing a module, then let the router bring the new one online after insertion. Wear an antistatic strap, slide the module in squarely and tighten its screws so it seats fully. Keep blanking plates on unused slots to maintain airflow.
Once seated, the six ports appear as analogue voice ports in IOS XE and are configured with the usual voice-port and dial-peer commands. Cable the FXS ports to telephones, fax machines or door entry phones, and the FXO ports to analogue lines from your carrier or an existing PBX. Set FXO dial peers and caller ID options to match the line provider in Qatar, and test inbound and outbound calls on each line before cut-over.
