This is a refurbished Dell data centre (DC) solid state drive with 1.92TB of NAND flash, a SATA 6Gb/s interface and the 2.5 inch small form factor, sold under our SKU SSD-1.92TB-SATA-DELL. It is intended for Dell PowerEdge servers and other enterprise platforms with 2.5 inch SATA or SAS/SATA bays. As a Dell-branded drive, it keeps a PowerEdge fleet consistent for spares and inventory. IT teams in Doha and across Qatar fit it to replace ageing SFF hard drives in servers that remain in service, to add a flash tier to a mixed array, or to build read-heavy all-flash volumes for virtualisation hosts, databases and mirrored boot volumes. The 1.92TB capacity suits a single-drive operating system install or one member of a larger RAID set.

The interface is the value that decides where this drive fits. SATA drives work on SATA host controllers, on RAID controllers that support SATA devices, and on SAS controllers and backplanes, which accept SATA drives by design. They do not work in NVMe-only bays. Capacity is quoted in decimal units, so an operating system reports roughly 1.74TiB before formatting.
With no moving parts, the drive gives far quicker random access and lower latency than a spinning disk. It also draws less power and produces less heat and noise, which helps in dense racks.
Installation
A hot-swap bay needs a carrier matched to the server. Dell tray designs differ between PowerEdge generations, so check the tray type of your chassis before fitting. Mount the drive in the carrier with the carrier screws, then slide it into the bay until the handle closes. In a server with a hot-plug backplane and a supporting controller, the drive can be inserted or removed while the system runs. On a cabled bay without a backplane, shut the server down first. The drive fills a 2.5 inch bay; a 3.5 inch bay needs an adapter or a carrier that accepts 2.5 inch drives.
When this drive replaces a failed array member, use it in a set of the same capacity and type, and let the controller finish the rebuild before you remove any other drive. Most RAID controllers, including Dell PERC, do not allow SSDs and hard drives in the same virtual disk, so build a separate flash volume instead. Usable space depends on the RAID level: two drives in RAID 1 give about 1.92TB, four in RAID 5 about 5.76TB, and four in RAID 10 about 3.84TB.
