The L1100E-S1 is Dell's 1100W hot-plug power supply for 13th and 14th generation PowerEdge servers, the rating above the 750W unit and the one Dell specifies when a server carries two high wattage processors, a full complement of drives or a graphics card. It shares the same bay and connector as the 750W supply, so a server can be moved to the higher rating by swapping both units. It is refurbished. Buyers in Qatar fit L1100E-S1 to a 2U server being loaded with 150W or hotter processors and sixteen drives, to a GPU host, or to replace a failed 1100W unit like for like. Dell offered the 1100W unit across its 13th and 14th generation 2U rack and tower servers as an option above the 750W supply, and the two share the same bay, so it is the part to reach for when a server's load has grown beyond what it was ordered with. iDRAC reports each supply's input power and load, which is the simplest way to see whether a server is running close to the 750W limit before deciding to move up.
Installation
With a healthy second supply fitted, replace a unit while the server runs: disconnect its cord, press the release tab, withdraw it, push the L1100E-S1 in until it latches and reconnect the cord; the LED turns green and iDRAC reports both supplies. When upgrading from 750W, replace both units, one at a time, so the pair matches. Shut down first on a single supply server. A C13 cord rated for the load is required and not included.
