Dell part 1TD00 is the combined processor heatsink and fan for the Precision T3600, T5600, T7600 and T7610 tower workstations, the LGA2011 generation of Dell's professional desktops. Unlike a server heatsink, it carries its own fan in a shroud that bolts to the heatsink, and it is the module that must be replaced when a workstation's processor fan fails or when a second processor is added to a T7600 or T7610. It is refurbished. Dell's diagnostic lights and the pre-boot message identify which processor fan has failed on a dual socket T7600 or T7610, so the correct one of two identical assemblies is replaced.
Specification
The assembly cools the Xeon E5 processors of the first and second LGA2011 generations, including the 130W and 150W parts fitted to the T7600 and T7610, and its fan connects to the system board's processor fan header so speed follows processor temperature. A fan that has stopped shows as a fan failure message at power on and the workstation may refuse to boot until it is replaced, which is the usual reason this part is ordered.
Installation
Unplug the workstation and open the side panel. Disconnect the fan cable from the board, loosen the four captive screws of the old assembly in a cross pattern and lift it off. Clean the processor, apply fresh thermal compound, seat the 1TD00 squarely and tighten its screws evenly, then connect the fan cable to the processor fan header. Power on and check that the fan spins and no fan error appears.
