Dell iDRAC9 Enterprise licence for PowerEdge 14th Generation servers, a perpetual digital licence that enables remote console and virtual media.
This is the Enterprise edition licence for iDRAC9, the Integrated Dell Remote Access Controller 9 built into the system board of PowerEdge 14th Generation (14G) servers such as the R640 and R740. It is software only: a perpetual digital licence file, bound to the Service Tag of one server. Installing it unlocks the Enterprise feature set, chiefly a remote keyboard, video and mouse console and virtual media, alongside remote power control and hardware monitoring. System administrators and integrators in Qatar buy it to manage servers in a data centre, a remote site or a client's premises without travelling to them. It is a common addition to refurbished 14G servers that were supplied with a lower iDRAC tier, and to estates outside Doha where hands-on access is slow or costly.

Specification
iDRAC9 arrived with the PowerEdge 14G range in 2017, and that is the generation this licence is issued for. 13G servers use iDRAC8 with their own licensing, and 15G servers are licensed separately, so check the generation of the target server before ordering.
Installation
The licence is a file, not a part, so the server stays racked and running. Import it through the licences page of the iDRAC9 web interface, or with RACADM, on the server whose Service Tag it was generated for. A file issued for a different tag will not activate on another machine. Once imported, the Enterprise features such as the virtual console and virtual media become available in the iDRAC interface. For remote use the server needs standby power and a network connection to its iDRAC port, even with no operating system installed.

Does this licence include any hardware?
No. iDRAC9 is integrated into the system board of 14G PowerEdge servers, so the Enterprise upgrade is a digital licence file only. The server needs standby power and a network connection to its iDRAC port for the features to be used.
What do I need to provide to activate the licence?
The licence is bound to one server's Service Tag, so you need the correct Service Tag of the server it will be installed on. The Service Tag is shown on the server's label and in the iDRAC interface. A licence generated for the wrong tag will not activate on a different machine.
Can the licence be moved to another server later?
It is bound to the Service Tag of a single server, so it is intended for that machine only. If you manage several 14G servers, each one needs its own licence.
Is the licence a subscription or perpetual?
It is perpetual. Once installed on the server it was issued for, there is no renewal term for the iDRAC9 Enterprise features on that machine.
Will this work on a 13th or 15th Generation PowerEdge?
This listing is for 14G PowerEdge servers running iDRAC9. 13G servers use iDRAC8, which has its own licensing. 15G and later servers also run iDRAC9 but are licensed separately. Check the generation of the server, for example R640 or R740 for 14G, before ordering.
Can I manage a server with no operating system installed?
Yes. iDRAC runs independently of the host operating system. With standby power and network connectivity, you can open the virtual console, mount an installation ISO through virtual media and install the OS remotely.
What does refurbished mean at ServerDove?
