Dell PowerEdge R440 8SFF barebone, a 1U dual-socket LGA3647 rack server for custom builds with your own CPUs, memory and drives.
This is a refurbished Dell PowerEdge R440 in the 8SFF chassis, sold as a barebone under SKU SRV-DELL-R440-8SFF-BARE. The R440 belongs to Dell's 14th generation PowerEdge family. It is a 1U, two-socket LGA3647 server for Intel Xeon Scalable processors, with DDR4 ECC Registered memory, PCIe 3.0 expansion and integrated iDRAC9 remote management. This unit has eight 2.5 inch SFF front bays for SAS, SATA or SSD drives. It ships with no CPU, no RAM and no drives fitted. Buyers are system integrators and IT teams in Qatar who already know the workload. They may want one processor now and a second later, or they may hold spare Xeon Scalable CPUs and DDR4 RDIMMs from other 14th generation servers. A barebone lets you build exactly that without paying for parts you will replace. We keep the R440 in Doha for local projects and infrastructure refreshes.

The R440 was released in 2017 as part of Dell's 14th generation PowerEdge line. It was offered with 4 x 3.5 inch, 8 x 2.5 inch or 10 x 2.5 inch front bays. This unit is the 8 x 2.5 inch version, and the bay count cannot be changed later without changing the backplane.
What you need to add
A barebone needs at least one processor, memory and a boot device before it will run an operating system. Plan the build as a whole, because the processor count decides how many DIMM slots are usable.
- One or two Intel Xeon Scalable processors (LGA3647), each with its 1U heatsink. Two processors must be the same model.
- DDR4 ECC Registered DIMMs. With one processor only the 8 slots on its side are active. Fill slots in matched sets per processor for full memory bandwidth.
- 2.5 inch SAS, SATA or SSD drives, each in a Dell 14th generation 2.5 inch hot-plug carrier.
- A Dell PERC RAID controller or HBA if you need hardware RAID or SAS drive support.
- Power supplies and power cords if your unit does not already carry the supply configuration you need.
- 1U rails for mounting in a standard 19 inch rack.
Compatibility
Drive carriers must be the 14th generation Dell 2.5 inch type. Carriers from earlier PowerEdge generations are a different design and will not latch correctly. Memory must be DDR4 ECC Registered. Unbuffered DIMMs will not work, and mixing RDIMMs with LRDIMMs is not supported. Processors must be first or second generation Xeon Scalable. Update the BIOS and iDRAC9 firmware before fitting second generation CPUs, as older firmware may not recognise them. Expansion cards should be PCIe 3.0 and fit a 1U riser, so check card height before ordering.

What does refurbished mean at ServerDove?
