This refurbished Dell PowerEdge R750, our SKU SD-R750-2X4310-32G-2X480SSD, is a 15th generation 2U dual-socket rack server on the 3rd Gen Intel Xeon Scalable platform. It is fitted with 2 x Xeon Silver 4310 processors (24 cores, 48 threads in total), 32GB of DDR4 ECC registered memory and 2 x 480GB SSDs, with iDRAC9 for out-of-band management. It is a working base platform for IT teams and integrators in Qatar who want a 2U host they can expand in place. The two SSDs suit a mirrored boot or hypervisor volume, the 32 DIMM slots leave plenty of memory headroom, and PCIe Gen4 slots plus an OCP 3.0 slot take current network and storage cards. Compatibility
Memory must be DDR4 ECC registered. Use matched modules and avoid mixing sizes within a channel. Processors must be 3rd Gen Xeon Scalable in socket LGA4189. CPUs and memory from the 14th generation R740 are not interchangeable with the R750. Check the TDP of a higher-wattage CPU against the heatsink and fan configuration before upgrading. PCIe Gen4 slots also accept Gen3 cards at Gen3 speed. Network adapters for the dedicated slot must be OCP 3.0 cards.

The Xeon Silver 4310 supports DDR4 at up to 2666 MT/s, so memory runs at that speed even if 3200 MT/s modules are fitted. The R750 platform itself supports 3200 MT/s, which is reached by moving to Gold or Platinum 3rd Gen Xeon Scalable processors that support the higher speed.
How much memory can be added to this R750?
The server has 32 DIMM slots, 16 per processor across eight channels each. The 32GB installed is a starting configuration. For best bandwidth, populate channels evenly on both CPUs, ideally one DIMM per channel across all eight channels per socket, using matched DDR4 registered modules.
How does the PowerEdge R750 differ from the R740?
The R740 is the 14th-generation predecessor using 1st and 2nd Gen Xeon Scalable processors with six memory channels per socket and PCIe Gen3. The R750 moves to 3rd Gen Xeon Scalable on socket LGA4189, with eight memory channels per socket, 32 DIMM slots, PCIe Gen4 and an OCP 3.0 network slot. Processors and memory are not interchangeable between the two.
What is the difference between the R750 and the R650?
Both use the same 3rd Gen Xeon Scalable platform and 32 DIMM slots. The R650 is a 1U server with fewer drive bays and PCIe slots, aimed at dense compute. The R750 is 2U, giving more front drive capacity, more PCIe Gen4 slots and room for larger expansion cards such as GPUs.
Can the Xeon Silver 4310 processors be upgraded later?
Yes. The R750 accepts 3rd Gen Intel Xeon Scalable processors in socket LGA4189, including higher-core Gold and Platinum models. Check the processor's TDP against the chassis cooling and heatsink configuration, as higher-wattage CPUs can require different heatsinks or fan options. Both sockets should be fitted with matching processors.
What are the 2x 480GB SSDs typically used for?
A pair of 480GB SSDs is commonly configured as a RAID 1 mirror for the operating system or hypervisor, such as VMware ESXi, Windows Server or a Linux distribution. That keeps the boot volume separate from data storage, which can be added in the remaining front drive bays.
How is the R750 managed remotely?
The R750 includes iDRAC9, Dell's baseboard management controller. It provides remote power control, hardware monitoring, event logging and firmware updates over a network connection. Features such as the HTML5 virtual console and remote media depend on the iDRAC licence level fitted to the server.
