A refurbished PowerEdge T440 assembled by ServerDove on the 8LFF H330 barebone: one Intel Xeon Gold 6138 with 20 cores, 40 threads and a 2.0GHz base clock, 24GB of DDR4-2400 ECC RDIMM memory, 8TB of SAS storage on two HGST Ultrastar 4TB drives, the H330 RAID controller and two redundant power supplies. It is the entry point of the T440 range in Doha stock: enough processor for years of growth, modest memory to keep the cost down. Small businesses in Qatar buy this build for a first proper server, replacing a desktop pressed into service: a shared drive with proper RAID, a backup destination, and room to run a few virtual machines later.

with the two drives mirrored, 4TB of protected space is available for file shares and backups, and the redundant supplies keep it running through a failed unit. That is the main use for this server.
20 cores are far more than a file server needs. When memory is added, the same machine becomes a virtualisation host without touching the processor. Until then, 24GB limits it to a couple of small virtual machines.
