Dell part 0377CF is a 300GB Seagate hard drive spinning at 15,000 rpm on a 12Gb/s SAS interface in the 2.5 inch small form factor, certified by Dell for PowerEdge servers. Three hundred gigabytes at 15K is the classic boot and log drive: small, fast to access and quick to rebuild, fitted in mirrored pairs to countless PowerEdge servers. This unit is brand new rather than refurbished, which is unusual for ServerDove's stock. Buyers in Qatar use 0377CF to replace a failed boot drive in a PowerEdge with the exact Dell part, so the PERC and iDRAC accept it as certified, or to add a mirrored system volume to a refurbished server. ServerDove keeps it in Doha stock.

A 15K drive's advantage is latency: an average seek and rotation time of a few milliseconds, half that of a 7.2K drive, which shows in database transaction rates and boot times. Two of these mirrored on a PERC controller boot a hypervisor or Windows Server in seconds and rebuild in under half an hour if one fails. The 12Gb/s interface suits 13th generation and later PowerEdge backplanes.
Dell fitted 300GB 15K drives to the R630, R730 and R640 generations in mirrored pairs as the standard operating system volume, and many of those servers are still in service in Qatar with the original pair. Installation
Fit the drive in a Dell 2.5 inch hot-plug caddy, not included, and insert it into the bay while the server runs. The PERC identifies the certified part and rebuilds a degraded mirror automatically; for a new mirror, create the virtual disk in iDRAC or the controller utility before installing the operating system. Keep the pair to the same part number.
