Dell secondary PCIe 4.0 riser with one x16 low profile slot and cage for PowerEdge R450 and R650xs servers.
This is the secondary PCIe riser for Dell's PowerEdge R450 and R650xs 1U servers, supplied with its cage: a PCIe 4.0 riser board carrying one x16 low profile slot, which mounts in the second riser position at the rear of the chassis and adds an expansion slot that a server shipped without the riser does not have. It is refurbished and comes with the metal cage that locates it in the chassis. Buyers in Qatar fit this riser to an R450 or R650xs that needs a second card, typically a 25GbE network adapter, a Fibre Channel HBA or an NVMe adapter alongside the RAID or network card already fitted. A 1U server has no room for cards to stand upright, so risers turn the slot sideways; each riser position on the R450 and R650xs board is wired to a particular processor, and the secondary riser's lanes come from the second processor on some configurations, so the server may need two processors fitted for the slot to be active. PCIe 4.0 gives the slot double the bandwidth per lane of a 14th generation riser, which is what makes single slot 100GbE and PCIe 4.0 NVMe cards worthwhile. Low profile cards only fit; full height cards need a different riser.

Installation
Power the server down and unplug it, remove the lid and locate the empty secondary riser position at the rear. Fit the card into the riser first, secure its bracket to the cage, then lower the assembly into the chassis so the riser's connector engages the system board socket and its cage locks into place. Refit the lid, boot, and confirm in the BIOS or iDRAC that the new slot and card are recognised. Check the processor population rule for the slot if the card does not appear.
