Dell part TYF9H is the high performance cooling fan for the PowerEdge R450 and R650xs, Dell's 15th generation 1U servers. It is a hot-plug module that drops into the fan bay behind the drives, and its higher airflow is what Dell specifies when the server carries processors or cards at the upper end of its thermal range; the standard fans are not sufficient for those configurations. It is refurbished. Buyers in Qatar fit TYF9H when upgrading an R450 or R650xs to hotter processors, when adding a GPU or a high wattage network card, or to replace a failed fan of the same type. Dell's 15th generation servers use a fan configuration table: the combination of processors, drives and cards determines whether standard or high performance fans are required, and iDRAC warns when the fitted fans fall short. High performance fans move more air at a higher speed and draw more power, so the standard fans are preferred where they suffice. All fans in a server should be the same type, and the module is keyed to fit only its own bay position.

A failed fan shows in iDRAC as a fan fault and the remaining fans speed up to compensate, so the server keeps running, but it should be replaced promptly because the compensation is noisy and leaves no margin if a second fan fails.
Installation
Fans are hot-plug, so with the lid removed and the server running, lift the failed or standard fan straight up out of its bay by the tab and press the TYF9H down into the same bay until it seats on its connector. Replace all fans as a set when moving to high performance cooling, then refit the lid promptly, since the server's airflow depends on it. iDRAC reports each fan's speed and confirms the configuration is now within its thermal rules.

What does refurbished mean at ServerDove?
Off-lease or decommissioned enterprise hardware that we clean, test and reset in Doha. Every unit goes through POST, burn-in, memory and drive checks and a power-supply check, with firmware and BIOS returned to defaults and drives securely erased.
