HPE 4TB 7.2K SATA 3.5 inch enterprise hard drive, part number 657753-008, a hot-plug LFF capacity drive for ProLiant servers, refurbished.
HPE part 657753-008 is a 4TB 7,200 rpm SATA hard drive in the 3.5 inch large form factor, HPE's midline capacity drive for ProLiant servers with LFF bays. Midline drives are enterprise rated for continuous operation but use the SATA interface, which keeps the cost per terabyte down for backup, archive and file storage. It supports hot-plug and is recognised by Smart Array controllers as an HPE drive. It is refurbished and sold as a bare drive. Buyers in Qatar use 657753-008 to fill the LFF bays of a ProLiant storage or backup server, twelve of them giving a StoreEasy 1650 48TB raw, and to replace failed members of existing SATA arrays with the matching part. SATA drives in a ProLiant connect through the same SmartDrive carrier and backplane as SAS drives and work on any Smart Array controller, with the difference that a SATA drive has one port rather than two, which matters only in dual controller enclosures. Fit the drive in an HPE LFF SmartDrive carrier, not included, and slide it into a running server; the Smart Array controller identifies it by HPE part number and starts a rebuild if one is pending, or the drive can be added to an array or set as a spare through Smart Storage Administrator. Keep an array's members on the same firmware level using HPE's update tools, and leave a rebuild to finish before adding load.
