The Intel DC S3520 is a data centre SATA SSD series built for read intensive duty, and the 150GB model is its smallest capacity: a 2.5 inch drive on a 6Gb/s interface with hot-plug support, power loss protection and Intel's enterprise firmware. It is the drive ServerDove fits in pairs to its own StoreEasy storage servers as the operating system volume, and it is offered here for the same role in any server or workstation. It is refurbished and sold bare. The S3520 series is rated for around one full drive write per day, which for a boot volume is effectively unlimited, and its power loss protection and consistent latency are what make it suitable for a hypervisor's system disk where a consumer drive would risk corruption on a power cut. At 150GB it holds an operating system with years of updates and logs; it is not intended for data. Two of them in RAID 1 on the server's controller is the standard layout, and they draw very little power.

Installation
Mount the drive in the server's 2.5 inch hot-plug caddy, not included, and insert it into a bay with the server running; the controller detects it and a mirror can be created from the RAID utility or the management interface. For a workstation, fit it with a SATA cable and a 2.5 inch bracket. Install the operating system on the mirror after it is created, not before, so both drives are protected from the first boot.
