The Xeon Gold 6138 is a first-generation Intel Xeon Scalable processor, codenamed Skylake-SP. Intel launched it in 2017 on a 14nm process for the LGA3647 socket, also called Socket P. It has 20 cores and 40 threads, a 2.0 GHz base clock rising to 3.7 GHz on single-core turbo, 27.5 MB of shared L3 cache and a 125 W TDP. This refurbished unit is stocked under SKU CPU-INTEL-XEON-6138. It belongs in dual-socket servers from the Dell PowerEdge 14th generation, HPE ProLiant Gen10 and Lenovo ThinkSystem lines. IT teams and resellers in Doha and across Qatar buy it to fill an empty second socket, replace a failed processor or standardise a fleet on matched pairs. Two of them give 40 cores and 80 threads for virtualisation hosts, databases, container platforms and build nodes, within a power envelope that standard 1U and 2U chassis are designed for.

The 6138 sits in the Gold 6100 tier of the first Xeon Scalable generation, which supports up to four sockets through three UPI links per processor. The 2.0 GHz base clock is the guaranteed frequency at the rated TDP; 3.7 GHz is the maximum turbo with a single core loaded.
Each socket drives six DDR4-2666 channels, normally with registered (RDIMM) or load-reduced (LRDIMM) ECC modules; populating all six channels per socket gives full memory bandwidth. The 48 PCIe 3.0 lanes per processor serve NVMe drives, network adapters, RAID controllers and accelerators. The chip has no integrated graphics, so video comes from the server's management controller. It fits LGA3647 boards only, not LGA2011-3 boards built for Xeon E5 v3 and v4.
Installation
The processor is not hot-plug: shut the server down, remove the power cords and wear an ESD strap before opening the chassis. LGA3647 processors mount on a carrier clip attached to the heatsink, and the assembly is then tightened onto the socket in the order marked on the heatsink, so handle the CPU by its edges and keep the socket cover until the last moment. Use the heatsink the server vendor specifies for that chassis and a 125 W processor; adding a second CPU often also needs extra fans or a memory and fan kit. In a multi-socket server every processor must be the same model, so a second 6138 pairs only with an existing 6138, and first and second generation Xeon Scalable chips must not be mixed in one system.
