The NetApp HCI H615C is a 1U compute node from NetApp's HCI range, the hyperconverged platform in which compute nodes run the hypervisor and separate storage nodes running NetApp Element software provide shared block storage. Because compute and storage sit in separate nodes, a cluster can grow its processor and memory capacity without buying storage it does not need. This refurbished unit, SKU SRV-NETAPP-H615C-128SSD, takes two Intel Xeon Scalable processors and DDR4 registered memory. It carries a 128GB SSD as a dedicated boot drive for the hypervisor and has PCIe slots for expansion. It is bought by teams in Qatar that already run a NetApp HCI cluster and need another compute node, a like-for-like replacement for a failed H615C, or a spare node held on site in Doha.

The node takes DDR4 registered DIMMs and two Intel Xeon Scalable processors. Both sockets must hold identical processors, same model and stepping. Fill memory in matched sets across both processors, with the same capacity, speed and rank per DIMM, and do not mix registered and load-reduced modules in the same node.

In a mixed cluster, keep the processor generation consistent with the other compute nodes, or enable VMware EVC so virtual machines can move between hosts. Plan network cabling to match the existing compute nodes so the new host joins the same storage and VM networks.
Full configuration
The H615C is a dual-socket node in a 1U chassis. The 128GB SSD holds the hypervisor only: in a NetApp HCI cluster, virtual machine data lives on the storage nodes, so the boot drive size does not limit workload capacity.

Adding an H615C gives the cluster more processor cores and memory for virtual machines, which suits virtualisation hosts, virtual desktops, application servers and databases whose data already sits on the Element storage nodes.
Keeping an identical node on the shelf shortens recovery when a compute node fails, because the replacement drops into the same rack position and joins the same cluster design.
Local storage is a boot device only, so the node is not suited to workloads that need large local disks. The 1U chassis is dense but leaves little room for expansion cards and puts more demand on rack cooling. When adding the node to a running cluster, match processor generation and memory size to the existing compute nodes so that VM migration and resource balancing behave predictably.
