This is a Samsung 16GB DDR4 registered ECC DIMM, stocked under SKU RAM-SAMSUNG-16G-2666. It is a dual-rank 2Rx4 module in the 288-pin format, rated at 2666 MT/s to the PC4-2666 standard and also labelled PC4-21300 after its peak transfer rate of about 21.3 GB/s. 2666 MT/s is the native top speed of first-generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors, which places this module in Dell PowerEdge 14th generation and HPE ProLiant Gen10 servers. IT teams in Doha and elsewhere in Qatar buy this refurbished RDIMM to add capacity for virtual machines, to replace a failed module and restore a balanced configuration, or to fill empty channels and raise memory bandwidth. RDIMMs and LRDIMMs cannot be mixed in one server; the system will usually refuse to boot or report a configuration error. RDIMMs of different speeds can share a server, but all memory then runs at the speed of the slowest module, and the number of DIMMs per channel can lower it further.
Specification
DDR4 runs at 1.2 V, lower than the 1.35 V or 1.5 V of DDR3 server memory, and it is keyed differently, so it cannot be fitted in a DDR3 slot. When matching existing DIMMs, rank and DRAM width matter as much as capacity: a like-for-like partner is a 16GB 2Rx4 RDIMM at 2666 MT/s.
Installation
Memory is not hot-plug: shut the server down, disconnect the power cords and let standby power drain before opening the chassis. Wear an anti-static strap, open the slot latches, align the notch on the module with the key in the slot and press down evenly until both latches close. Follow the server's memory population order, filling the first slot of each channel before the second, and fit matched modules across every channel of each processor for the best bandwidth. Do not mix this RDIMM with LRDIMMs or unbuffered modules. On first power-up the server runs a memory check, after which the new capacity shows in the BIOS and the management controller.
