SK Hynix 16GB DDR4-2133 ECC registered DIMM, PC4-2133, for Intel Xeon E5 v3 and v4 rack and tower servers.
This is a refurbished SK Hynix 16GB DDR4 registered ECC memory module, our SKU RAM-SKHYNIX-16G-2133, rated at 2133MT/s to the PC4-2133 standard, also labelled PC4-17000. It is a 288-pin RDIMM running at the standard DDR4 1.2V. Memory of this class arrived with Intel's Xeon E5 v3 processors and remains the standard fitment for Dell PowerEdge 13th generation and HPE ProLiant Gen9 servers, which are still widely deployed. IT teams in Doha and across Qatar use it to add capacity to virtualisation hosts, to bring a partly populated server up to a balanced configuration across its memory channels, or to replace a failed 16GB DIMM like for like. Keeping identical modules on the shelf as spares is also common for estates running Xeon E5 hardware.

Do not mix RDIMMs with LRDIMMs in the same server. Mixing with DDR4-2400 RDIMMs works on platforms that support both speeds, but every module then runs at 2133MT/s. Servers built on Xeon E5 v1 or v2 processors use 240-pin DDR3, which has a different key notch, so this module will not fit them.
Specification
The module runs at 2133MT/s at 1.2V. On Xeon E5 v4 systems that support faster memory it still runs at 2133MT/s, and the memory controller runs every installed DIMM at the speed of the slowest module present.
Installation
Fit memory with the server shut down and the power cords removed, and use antistatic precautions before handling the module. Xeon E5 v3 and v4 processors have four memory channels each, so populate modules evenly across channels following the slot order printed inside the server cover. In a dual-socket server, eight identical 16GB modules, one per channel, give 128GB with full channel bandwidth. Match capacity, speed and module type within each channel. Corrected ECC errors are logged by the server's management controller, which gives early warning of a module that may need replacing.
