About this nas enclosure

Western Digital My Cloud EX4100 4-bay NAS enclosure, SKU NAS-WD-EX4100-4BAY, for centralised network storage, backup and file sharing.

The Western Digital My Cloud EX4100 is a four-bay network attached storage enclosure from the WD My Cloud range, supplied refurbished as SKU NAS-WD-EX4100-4BAY. It takes four 3.5 inch SATA hard drives, connects to the network over Gigabit Ethernet and is administered through a web-based management interface. RAID 0, 1, 5 and 10 are supported, so the four bays can be arranged for maximum capacity, full mirroring or a balance of the two. The unit ships without drives. That suits buyers in Doha and across Qatar who already hold suitable disks, or who prefer to choose capacity and drive model themselves. Typical buyers are small offices and home offices that need one shared location for documents and a dependable target for PC and server backups, without the cost, noise and rack space of a full storage server.

The EX4100 accepts 3.5 inch SATA hard drives. The minimum number of drives depends on the RAID level you intend to build.

ItemSupportedNote
3.5 inch SATA HDDYesUp to 4 drives
RAID 0YesStriping, no redundancy
RAID 1YesMirrored pair of drives
RAID 5Yes3 or 4 drives, single parity
RAID 10Yes4 drives, striped mirrors

Use drives of the same capacity within an array, since RAID sizes every member to the smallest disk. Drives rated for continuous NAS operation are the better choice over basic desktop drives for an always-on unit. Drives taken from another system should be wiped first, as building an array erases their contents. Management is through a web browser on any computer on the same network.

Full configuration

The EX4100 is a diskless enclosure: all four bays arrive empty, and usable capacity depends on the drives you fit and the RAID level you choose. In RAID 5 roughly one drive's capacity goes to parity; in RAID 1 or RAID 10 half the raw capacity is used for mirroring.

What this configuration suits

Compare the workload you have in mind against the fitted components.

Shared file storage for a small office

one central location for documents, scans and project folders, reachable by every PC on the network.

A backup target for desktops, laptops and small servers, with RAID 1, 5 or 10 protecting against a single drive failure.

Home office and media storage where four bays give more room than a one or two bay unit.

It is limited by its Gigabit Ethernet connection, which caps any single transfer at roughly 110 to 120 megabytes per second. It is not the right choice for virtualisation datastores, large databases or many users editing heavy media files at the same time. RAID is not a backup on its own: keep a second copy of important data elsewhere.

Upgrade paths

  • All four 3.5 inch bays are free on delivery, so capacity is set entirely by the drives you choose.
  • Larger SATA hard drives raise capacity without changing the enclosure.
  • Plan the final RAID layout before loading data: changing RAID level later usually means backing up, rebuilding the volume and restoring.

Why buy refurbished

Enterprise hardware, tested in Doha, at a fraction of the price of new

Every unit we sell has already proven itself in a data centre. We test it again, grade it, and back it with a warranty before it leaves our stock.

Talk to our team

Tested before it ships

POST, burn-in, memory and power-supply checks on every unit. Anything that fails is repaired or pulled from stock, not sold.

Same performance, lower cost

A Xeon runs the same workloads whether it is new or two years old. Spend the difference on more CPUs, memory or storage.

In stock, not on order

New enterprise hardware can take weeks or months to arrive. Ours is on the shelf in Doha and delivered across Qatar within a day.

Warranty and local support

Every unit is covered. Installation, configuration and hardware support are handled by our own team in Qatar, not a call centre abroad.
