Dell 3.5 inch LFF hot plug hard drive caddy for PowerEdge servers Refurbished · Tested
About this drive caddy

Dell PowerEdge 3.5 inch LFF hot-plug drive tray caddy for mounting one SAS or SATA hard drive in front bays.

This is a Dell hot-plug carrier for 3.5 inch large form factor (LFF) drives, sold under SKU CADDY-DELL-LFF-35. It holds one 3.5 inch SAS or SATA hard drive and seats it in the front bays of LFF-configured PowerEdge servers from the 12th, 13th and 14th generations: the R520, R530, R540, R720, R730 and R740 rack servers and the T430, T440, T630 and T640 towers. Drives fit into the tray without tools, and the carrier lets a drive be pulled and replaced from the front while the server is running. IT teams and integrators in Doha and across Qatar use it to populate empty bays, replace a damaged or missing carrier, or rebuild a refurbished server with new drives for file storage, backup targets or virtualisation hosts. It fits LFF bays only. A chassis built with 2.5 inch bays needs a smaller carrier.

The carrier is listed for the following PowerEdge models in their LFF configuration, meaning the chassis is fitted with a 3.5 inch drive backplane. The 14th generation models (R540, R740, T440 and T640) use a different latch and bezel style from earlier servers, so compare against a tray already in the chassis before ordering several or mixing styles in one server.

The same server models built with 2.5 inch SFF bays take a smaller carrier and will not accept this tray.

Specification

The carrier is a mechanical part: it holds the drive and leaves the drive connector exposed to the backplane, so the interface is set by the drive, backplane and RAID controller rather than by the tray. Either a SAS or a SATA 3.5 inch hard drive can be fitted.

Installation

Place the 3.5 inch drive in the tray with its connector facing the rear opening and secure it in the tool-less mounting. With the handle open, slide the carrier into the bay until it meets the backplane, then close the handle so the latch locks it in place. Hot-plug replacement is safe when the drive belongs to a redundant array such as RAID 1, 5 or 6, where the controller rebuilds onto the new disk; pulling a drive from a non-redundant volume takes that volume offline. Check the drive status LED and the controller view in iDRAC before and after a swap. The caddy is supplied without a hard drive, and fitting spare carriers to unused bays lets drives be added later without sourcing trays at that point.

Why buy refurbished

Enterprise hardware, tested in Doha, at a fraction of the price of new

Every unit we sell has already proven itself in a data centre. We test it again, grade it, and back it with a warranty before it leaves our stock.

Talk to our team

Tested before it ships

POST, burn-in, memory and power-supply checks on every unit. Anything that fails is repaired or pulled from stock, not sold.

Same performance, lower cost

A Xeon runs the same workloads whether it is new or two years old. Spend the difference on more CPUs, memory or storage.

In stock, not on order

New enterprise hardware can take weeks or months to arrive. Ours is on the shelf in Doha and delivered across Qatar within a day.

Warranty and local support

Every unit is covered. Installation, configuration and hardware support are handled by our own team in Qatar, not a call centre abroad.
