HPE part 651314-001 is the 3.5 inch large form factor SmartDrive carrier, the tray that holds a SAS or SATA hard drive in the hot-plug LFF bays of ProLiant Gen8, Gen9 and Gen10 servers, including the DL360, DL380 and ML350 series. HPE kept the same carrier design across three generations, so this one tray serves the whole range. It is refurbished and supplied empty. Buyers in Qatar need one for every bare LFF drive they fit to a ProLiant, and ServerDove keeps this refurbished carrier in Doha stock in quantity so drives and trays can be ordered together for storage server builds.

Specification
The SmartDrive carrier has a status ring on its face that shows the drive's activity, fault and rebuild state, driven by the backplane, and a release button with a "do not remove" indicator that lights when pulling the drive would break an array. Carriers from Gen7 and earlier ProLiant servers are a different design and do not fit these bays. A 2.5 inch drive can go in an LFF bay only with HPE's separate adapter carrier.
Installation
Fit the drive in the carrier with the four side screws, connector to the rear, remove the bay blank, and slide the carrier in with the handle open until it stops, then close the handle to seat the drive. The Smart Array controller detects it within seconds. Keep blanks in empty bays for airflow, and note that the carrier's screws are reused if a drive is later swapped.
