The HPE MC96 is a 96W Smart Storage Battery, HPE part number 876850-001 and spare number 881093-210. It powers the write cache on HPE Smart Array controllers when mains power fails, so cached writes are preserved instead of lost. It is listed for the Smart Array P440, P440ar, P840 and P840ar, the controller generation fitted to HPE ProLiant Gen9 rack and tower servers. The P440 and P840 are PCIe cards. The P440ar and P840ar are AROC flexible array controllers. Server administrators and integrators in Doha and elsewhere in Qatar buy this refurbished module when a Gen9 server reports a missing or failed cache battery, or when a Smart Array controller is being added to a system without one. Installation
Shut the server down and disconnect the mains cords before fitting the battery, and handle the module with normal anti-static precautions. Mounting position and cable routing depend on the server chassis, and the battery needs the cable that suits that chassis, so have the correct cable fitted or to hand before you start. Seat the battery in its mounting position, connect the cable and route it clear of fans and airflow paths. After power-on, a new battery needs time to charge, and the controller may keep write-back caching disabled until charging completes. Once charged, the Smart Storage Administrator should report the battery as present and healthy with the cache enabled.
