RAID Levels Explained: RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 for Business Servers

This collection holds spinning hard drives built for continuous use in servers and storage systems. It includes 10K and 15K RPM SAS drives in the 2.5-inch size used by most rack servers, high-capacity 7.2K RPM SAS and SATA drives in the 3.5-inch size, and NAS-class SATA drives. Brands include Dell, HPE, HGST Ultrastar, Western Digital Ultrastar and Red, IBM and Toshiba.
It is for buyers replacing a failed disk in an existing array, extending capacity, or building backup and archive storage where cost per terabyte matters more than speed.
Speed and capacity pull in opposite directions. Faster drives spin smaller platters and hold less; slower drives hold far more.
| Speed | Usual size | Strength | Typical use |
|---|---|---|---|
| 7.2K RPM | 3.5-inch, some 2.5-inch | Highest capacity, lowest cost per terabyte | Backups, file shares, archives, video retention |
| 10K RPM | 2.5-inch | Balance of capacity and response time | Operating system and application volumes |
| 15K RPM | 2.5-inch | Fastest spinning disk, smaller capacities | Like-for-like replacement in older database arrays |
Browse by size in 2.5-inch drives and 3.5-inch hard drives, or see SATA hard drives for SATA only.
Drives use 512n, 512e or 4Kn sector formats. 512e presents 512-byte sectors on top of 4K physical sectors and works almost everywhere. 4Kn needs a controller and operating system that support it. When replacing a disk in an array, match the interface, capacity or larger, speed and sector format of the drives already there.
All drives are held in Doha, with delivery across Qatar typically in one day. Each refurbished drive is tested before it is listed and is covered by the ServerDove warranty. If you need an exact match for a failed drive, send the label details or server model to sales@serverdove.com or on WhatsApp +974 5521 2108 and we will confirm or source it.
For capacity, backups and file storage, 7.2K RPM drives give the most terabytes for the money. For operating system and application volumes on spinning disk, 10K RPM is the usual choice. 15K RPM drives are mainly bought to replace like for like in existing arrays, since SSDs now outperform them for new builds.
Nearline SAS describes a 7.2K RPM high-capacity drive with a SAS interface. It pairs the capacity of a desktop-speed disk with SAS features such as dual ports and full-duplex links. It suits backup targets and bulk storage in servers whose controllers and backplanes are SAS.
Usually yes. A RAID controller accepts a larger replacement but uses only the capacity that matches the other members of the array until every drive is upgraded. Keep the interface, speed and sector format the same as the existing drives so the rebuild completes cleanly.
Our refurbished drives are tested before they are listed and are covered by the ServerDove warranty. As with any drive, protect data with RAID and a separate backup rather than relying on a single disk. Extended warranty can be quoted on request for larger deployments.
512e means 512-byte emulation. The drive writes 4K physical sectors but presents 512-byte logical sectors to the controller and operating system, which keeps it compatible with older software and RAID controllers. It is the most common format on current high-capacity drives.
Read the label on an existing drive for the capacity, speed, interface and vendor part number, or send us the server model or service tag. The team will confirm a match, including the caddy if you need one, before you order.
