The Z series is HP's professional workstation line. This range covers two generations of Z towers: the Z420 and Z820, and the later Z440, Z640 and Z840. They come as configured systems with Xeon processors, ECC memory and NVIDIA Quadro graphics, or as barebone towers to build to your own specification.
They are for designers, engineers and analysts in Qatar who need a certified workstation for CAD, rendering or data work, and for offices that already run HP and want matching machines.
The first digit sets the size of the machine. Z4 models are single-socket towers, Z6 models can run one or two processors, and Z8 models are full dual-socket towers with the most memory slots, bays and expansion. The last two digits mark the generation.
| Model | Sockets | Processors | Memory |
|---|---|---|---|
| Z420 | 1 | Xeon E5 v1/v2 | DDR3 ECC |
| Z820 | 2 | Xeon E5 v1/v2 | DDR3 ECC |
| Z440 | 1 | Xeon E5 v3/v4 | DDR4 ECC |
| Z640 | 1 or 2 | Xeon E5 v3/v4 | DDR4 ECC |
| Z840 | 2 | Xeon E5 v3/v4 | DDR4 ECC |
For CAD and modelling the Z440 is the practical choice: one Xeon processor, DDR4 and room for a professional graphics card. The Z640 adds the option of a second processor for rendering without the size of a full Z8. The Z840 is for heavy rendering, simulation and large memory. The Z820 and Z420 use the older DDR3 platform and are the lower-cost route for labs, training rooms and light work.
Z workstations ship from Doha with delivery across Qatar typically in one day. Refurbished units are tested before they are listed and covered by the ServerDove warranty, with extended cover quoted on request. The team can complete a barebone to your specification and quote for several identical machines by WhatsApp on +974 5521 2108 or at sales@serverdove.com.
They are the same generation at three sizes. The Z440 is a single-socket tower for CAD and modelling. The Z640 can run one or two processors in a mid-sized case. The Z840 is the full dual-socket model with the most memory, drive bays and expansion slots. All three use Xeon E5 v3/v4 processors and DDR4 ECC memory.
For light workloads and tight budgets, yes. Both use the older Xeon E5 v1/v2 platform with DDR3 ECC memory, so they are slower and less efficient than the Z440 and Z840. They remain capable for 2D CAD, training rooms, lab machines and general office use where a solid tower matters more than speed.
The Z640 is designed to run one or two processors, so a single-processor unit can be expanded. The second processor needs matching hardware and a processor of the same model. Send the serial number and the processor you have, and the team will confirm what is needed before you order.
No. HP split in 2015 into HP Inc., which makes PCs, printers and Z workstations, and Hewlett Packard Enterprise, which makes ProLiant servers and enterprise storage. Z workstations are HP Inc. products. The difference matters when you look up drivers, BIOS updates and documentation.
It depends on the model and generation. The Z420 and Z820 use DDR3, while the Z440, Z640 and Z840 use DDR4, and graphics cards are limited by size, slot and power connectors. We do not assume compatibility. Send the serial number and the parts you want to fit, and the team will confirm before you order.
