RAID Levels Explained: RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 for Business Servers

Other Components gathers the chassis hardware that powers, cools and mounts a system: hot-plug and internal power supplies, CPU heatsinks, PCIe riser cards, sliding rail kits and front bezels, for Dell PowerEdge, Dell Precision and HPE ProLiant systems.
Buyers use it to replace a failed supply, add a second processor, gain an expansion slot or mount a server in a rack. Every refurbished item is tested first. For drive caddies, fans, cables and boards, see the wider Parts & Accessories range.
Rack servers normally run two hot-plug supplies for redundancy, and in that setup one supply must be able to carry the whole load on its own. Size the supply for the configuration's real maximum draw: processors, drives, memory and any graphics cards. The 80 Plus rating, such as Gold or Platinum, describes efficiency, meaning how much power is lost as heat. Supplies in a pair should be the same model and wattage, and vendor formats such as HPE Flex Slot are not interchangeable with others. Workstation supplies are internal and specific to the model.
Each processor needs its own heatsink, so adding a second processor means adding a heatsink, and some chassis also need an extra fan. Higher-wattage processors can call for a larger heatsink than the standard one. Always apply fresh thermal paste when refitting.
A riser card turns a motherboard connector into usable PCIe slots. The riser decides how many slots you get, their width, such as x8 or x16, and whether they take low-profile or full-height cards. In many dual-socket servers, some riser slots only work with the second processor fitted.
Rail kits are made for particular server models. Sliding rails let a server be pulled out for service without unracking it. Check the rack depth and hole type, square, round or threaded, before ordering. A lockable front bezel stops drives being pulled by accident.
Send the server model or service tag and the team will confirm the part. Everything is held in Doha, covered by the ServerDove warranty, and racking and installation are available as a service.
Start from the configuration: number and wattage of processors, number of drives, memory and any graphics or accelerator cards. With redundant supplies, one supply must carry the full load alone. Vendors publish power calculators for their servers, and the team can help size it. When replacing a failed supply, match the wattage already installed.
Yes. Most servers with two supply bays run on a single supply, provided it can carry the load. You lose redundancy, so a supply failure or a tripped circuit takes the server down, and the server usually reports a redundancy warning. For anything that must stay up, fit both supplies and feed them from separate power circuits.
Yes. Every processor needs its own heatsink, and many dual-socket servers ship with a blank in place of the second one. Some chassis also need an extra fan, and higher-wattage processors may need a larger heatsink than the standard part. Send the server model and the processor you plan to fit and the team will list what is needed.
A riser carries PCIe slots up from the motherboard so expansion cards sit flat inside a rack chassis. It sets the number of slots, their electrical width and whether they take low-profile or full-height cards. Changing the riser can add slots or make room for a larger card, but risers are specific to each chassis, so confirm the model first.
Rail kits fit standard 19-inch racks, but they are made for particular server models, not for every server. Before ordering, check the rack depth between front and rear posts and the hole type, square, round or threaded, since some rails only mount in certain types. Send the server model and rack details and the team will confirm.
