The Cisco WS-C3850-48U-S, listed under our SKU CS-WSC3850-12X48UL, is a refurbished Catalyst 3850 Series access switch. It is a 1 RU fixed-configuration model from the StackWise-480 generation of Catalyst switches running Cisco IOS XE. This unit provides 48 x 10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet ports with PoE+ at up to 30 W per port against a 1100 W total PoE budget, plus 12 multigig (10G) ports. It carries the IP Base feature set for Layer 2 switching and static Layer 3 routing, and has one modular uplink slot. Buyers in Qatar use it to connect and power IP phones, wireless access points and cameras at the access layer of a campus or office network. It also suits adding port density to an existing Catalyst 3850 stack. The Catalyst 3850 is a 1 RU stackable access switch. The figures below are Cisco's published values for the 48-port model. The PoE budget depends on the power supplies fitted, so plan powered endpoints against the supplies you install.
The uplink slot is empty until a network module is fitted. Catalyst 3850 modules offer Gigabit SFP or 10 Gigabit SFP+ uplinks, so choose the module that matches your distribution or core switch.
Installation
The switch mounts in a standard 19 inch rack and occupies one unit. Fit both power supplies if you need redundancy or the full PoE budget, and fit a network module in the uplink slot before connecting the switch to the rest of the network. When joining an existing stack, connect the StackWise-480 cables in a closed ring and power on the new member so it takes its configuration from the active switch. All stack members should run the same IOS XE release and feature set. For a standalone deployment, make the first configuration through the console port, then set up the Ethernet management port for remote access.
