Mixing Fortinet with other brands
A FortiGate works with any standards-based switch and access point. Single-pane management of switches and Wi-Fi only applies to Fortinet devices supported by your FortiOS version. If you already have other switching, a FortiGate can sit in front of it, and you can compare options in network switches.

Do I need Fortinet switches if I buy a FortiGate?
No. A FortiGate works with any standards-based switch. Fortinet switches add central management from the firewall, which saves time on larger sites. If you already have managed switches from another brand, keeping them is a reasonable choice, and the FortiGate simply sits between them and the internet connection.
Are Fortinet licences included with the hardware?
Hardware and subscriptions are separate. FortiGuard security services and FortiCare support are registered per device with Fortinet. Check what is active on any unit you buy, and confirm subscription options, terms and the registration of a previously owned unit with Fortinet or its partner before ordering.
