RAID Levels Explained: RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 for Business Servers
RAID levels appear in nearly every storage decision, usually as though everyone already knows why RAID 6 beats...
Dell-branded drives, PERC RAID controllers, drive caddies and storage adapters for PowerEdge servers, stocked in Doha. Match the interface, form factor and server generation, and we will confirm the fit from your service tag.
This collection gathers the Dell parts that sit between a PowerEdge server and its data: Dell-firmware SAS hard drives at 7.2K, 10K and 15K RPM, SATA and SAS SSDs including read-intensive models, PERC RAID controllers such as the H710, H730 and H740P, 2.5-inch and 3.5-inch drive caddies, a 2.5-inch to 3.5-inch adapter caddy and an M.2 PCIe dual SSD adapter card.
It suits anyone running Dell servers in Qatar who wants parts that the server recognises as its own, whether replacing a failed drive or adding capacity.
Dell drives carry Dell firmware, which the server's management controller reads to report drive health and to apply firmware updates through Dell's own tools. A generic drive may run, but it can be flagged as not certified and will not receive those updates.
Caddy designs change between PowerEdge generations, and a caddy from one generation may not seat in another. Our caddy listings name the generations or models they are made for. If a drive is listed with a caddy, the listing says so.
| Part | Check |
|---|---|
| Hard drive or SSD | SAS or SATA, 2.5-inch or 3.5-inch, and sector format (512n, 512e or 4Kn) |
| Drive caddy | Bay size and the server generation the caddy is made for |
| PERC controller | Integrated (mini) or PCIe adapter form, cache size, and the generation of your server |
| M.2 adapter card | A free PCIe slot of the right size, and whether you need to boot from it |
For whole servers see Dell servers; for controllers from other makers see RAID controllers.
Send the model or service tag of your PowerEdge and the team will confirm which drive, caddy or PERC card fits before you pay. Parts ship from Doha, typically arriving anywhere in Qatar in one day, and refurbished items are tested before listing. We can fit the parts and set up the array as part of an installation service. For generic drive ranges see hard drives and solid-state drives, or reach us through the contact page.
Start with the bay size and interface: 2.5-inch or 3.5-inch, and SAS or SATA, as your backplane and PERC controller allow. Then match the caddy to the server generation. The simplest route is to send us the service tag from the front or top of the server, and the team will confirm the parts before you order.
Only where the listing says so. Drives and caddies are sold separately in most cases because the caddy depends on the server generation. If you are fitting a drive into an empty bay, order the caddy that matches your server as well. Blank filler trays in empty bays are not drive caddies.
RI stands for read-intensive. These SSDs are rated for workloads that read far more than they write, such as boot drives, web and file servers and many virtual machines. Mixed-use drives are rated for a higher level of daily writes. Dell uses the same labels across its SATA and SAS SSD ranges.
They describe sector size. 512n drives use 512-byte sectors. 512e drives use 4K physical sectors but present 512-byte sectors, so almost any controller and operating system accepts them. 4Kn drives present 4K sectors directly and need support from the controller, firmware and operating system. Do not mix 4Kn and 512-byte drives in one array.
Sometimes, but it is not safe to assume. PERC cards come in integrated and PCIe adapter forms, and integrated cards use a slot specific to certain servers. Firmware and management support also vary by generation. Send the server model or service tag and we will tell you which PERC options apply.
Yes. Installation, racking, cabling and base configuration are available as a service, which can include setting up the RAID array on your PERC controller. Tell us the server, the drives and how you want the storage laid out when you ask for a quotation.
