Adding a unit to an existing Palo Alto estate
- PAN-OS version: Panorama must run the same or a later version than the firewalls it manages. Check the new unit can run the version you use.
- High availability: a pair should be the same model on the same PAN-OS version with matching licences.
- Subscriptions: each unit carries its own, registered to its serial number with Palo Alto Networks.
- Previously owned units: Palo Alto sets the rules for registering them, so confirm before ordering.
Around the firewall
A branch firewall is only part of the site. It needs switching behind it, and often PoE for phones, cameras and access points. Palo Alto does not make switches, so pair it with any standards-based switch from network switches. If the branch will connect back to head office by VPN, check the head-office firewall has capacity for another tunnel.
