RAID Levels Explained: RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 for Business Servers
RAID levels appear in nearly every storage decision, usually as though everyone already knows why RAID 6 beats...
SFP, SFP+, SFP28 and QSFP transceivers and direct-attach cables for switches, routers and server network adapters. ServerDove sources modules to match your equipment and link distance for networks across Qatar.
Transceivers are the plug-in modules that give a switch, router or network adapter port its physical link, over multimode fibre, single-mode fibre or copper. This page covers the SFP family and its faster successors, together with direct-attach cables that do the same job over short distances.
Optics are sourced to order: tell the team the equipment at both ends and the distance between them, and they will match suitable modules. It is for network engineers and integrators in Qatar adding uplinks, connecting server racks or linking buildings.
| Form factor | Speed | Typical use |
|---|---|---|
| SFP | 1 Gb/s | Access switch uplinks, firewalls, routers |
| SFP+ | 10 Gb/s | Server and storage links, switch uplinks |
| SFP28 | 25 Gb/s | Data centre server links |
| QSFP+ | 40 Gb/s | Core and spine links, or 4 x 10G breakout |
| QSFP28 | 100 Gb/s | Data centre core, or 4 x 25G breakout |
Both ends of a link must use the same standard, wavelength and fibre type. Some switches accept only optics coded for their vendor, so give the team the model at each end. Check that the port supports the speed: a QSFP port will not take an SFP, and not every SFP+ port runs 1G modules. Stocked switches that take these optics are in Cisco switches and managed switches, with server cards in network adapters. They share the same physical size, but SFP is a 1 Gb/s standard and SFP+ runs at 10 Gb/s. An SFP+ port is used for faster server, storage and uplink connections. Many SFP+ ports can also run a 1G SFP module, though not all, so check the equipment before mixing them.
Often, yes, because the modules are the same size and many SFP+ ports support 1 Gb/s. It is not universal, and the port runs only at 1G with that module fitted. Send the switch or adapter model and ServerDove will confirm before you order.
Multimode fibre, such as OM3 or OM4, is used for shorter runs within a building and pairs with SR optics. Single-mode fibre, such as OS2, carries signals for kilometres and pairs with LR optics. Your existing cabling usually decides: the optics must match the fibre already installed.
Some switches accept only optics coded for that vendor and will disable an unrecognised module, while others accept third-party optics with limited support. The safe approach is to give the team the exact switch or router model so ServerDove sources modules that suit it.
A direct-attach cable is a copper cable with an SFP+, SFP28 or QSFP module fixed to each end. It is used for short links, usually between a server and the switch in the same or next rack, and costs less than two optics with a fibre patch lead.
Yes, transceivers and direct-attach cables are sourced on request. Send the model at each end of the link, the speed and the distance or fibre type, and the team will quote. Business customers can request a quotation for bulk orders.
