RAID Levels Explained: RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 for Business Servers
RAID levels appear in nearly every storage decision, usually as though everyone already knows why RAID 6 beats...
Copper, fibre and direct-attach network cables for switches, servers and patch panels. ServerDove sources the right category, length and connector on request, and can install cabling at sites across Qatar.
Network cables carry every link in a network, from a desk phone to the switch and from a server to the core. This page covers copper Ethernet patch leads, fibre patch cables and direct-attach cables for switches, servers and patch panels.
Specific cables are sourced on request: tell the team the category or fibre type, connectors, lengths and quantities, and they will quote. Structured cabling is also available as an installation service. It is for IT teams and integrators in Qatar fitting out racks, offices and server rooms.
| Category | Speed | Maximum length at that speed |
|---|---|---|
| Cat5e | 1 Gb/s | 100 m |
| Cat6 | 10 Gb/s | About 55 m (1 Gb/s to 100 m) |
| Cat6a | 10 Gb/s | 100 m |
The 100 m limit is for the whole channel, normally up to 90 m of fixed cable plus patch leads at each end.
Multimode fibre (OM3, OM4) serves shorter runs inside a building; single-mode fibre (OS2) serves long runs and links between buildings. Most patch leads use duplex LC connectors. The fibre type must match the optics at both ends, as explained in SFP modules and transceivers. Direct-attach cables, with a module fixed to each end, suit server-to-switch links of a few metres. For SAS and other drive cabling, see storage cables.
Send the requirement by WhatsApp on +974 5521 2108, email sales@serverdove.com or use the contact page. ServerDove also installs, racks, cables and applies base configuration as a service, so a new rack or PoE switch rollout can be delivered patched and labelled.
Cat6 is fine for Gigabit connections and short 10G runs of around 55 metres. Cat6a supports 10G across the full 100 metres and copes better with the heat of high-power PoE in large bundles. For new cabling expected to last many years, Cat6a is the safer choice.
100 metres for the full channel between the switch and the device. That is usually made up of up to 90 metres of fixed cable in the walls and shorter patch leads at each end. Beyond that distance you need another switch or a fibre link.
Yes. Cat5e supports PoE, PoE+ and PoE++, and many existing buildings already run it. For higher-power devices in large cable bundles, heat builds up in the cable, so Cat6 or Cat6a is a better choice for new installations, particularly where cables run through warm ceilings.
OM3 and OM4 are multimode fibres for shorter distances within a building, with OM4 reaching further at 10G and above. OS2 is single-mode fibre for long runs, including links between buildings. The fibre type must match the optics at each end of the link.
A DAC is a copper cable with transceiver modules permanently fitted to each end, suited to links of a few metres. A fibre patch lead has only connectors, so it needs a separate optic in each port but can run much further. DACs are cheaper for short links within a rack.
Yes. Cabling is available as a service, along with installation, racking and base configuration of the equipment it connects. Describe the site, number of points and rack layout when you ask for a quote, and the team will scope it.
