Installation
In a PowerEdge hot-plug bay the drive must be mounted in a Dell 3.5 inch carrier that matches the server generation, as tray designs differ between generations. Servers with fixed or cabled internal bays mount the drive differently and do not use the hot-plug tray. Hot-plug bays accept the drive while the server is running, and a PERC controller can rebuild a redundant array onto it once it replaces a failed member of equal or smaller capacity. The drive needs a SAS controller or HBA and a SAS-capable backplane; it will not run from a SATA port. On older controllers, check that the firmware supports 12TB drives before deployment.

Will this 12Gb/s SAS drive work on a 6Gb/s SAS controller?
