Specification
Without cache the H330 writes straight to the drives, so RAID 5 write performance is modest and RAID 1 or RAID 10 are the levels to use for anything busy. For SSDs the lack of cache matters less, since the drives themselves are fast, and the 12Gb/s interface carries their full throughput. The controller also supports non-RAID pass-through mode, which suits software defined storage and hypervisors that manage disks directly.
Installation
Power the server down and unplug it. The Mini Mono card seats in the dedicated slot on the system board beside the processors, secured by its bracket and screws, with the SAS cables from the backplane connected to its two ports. After boot, enter the controller's configuration through the BIOS or iDRAC, update its firmware with Dell's tools, and create the virtual disks. The card takes no PCIe slot, so all the server's expansion slots remain free.
