Dell PowerEdge R640 sliding rail kit with inner and outer rails for mounting the 1U server in a four-post rack.
This is a refurbished sliding rail kit, stock code RAIL-DELL-R640, for the Dell PowerEdge R640, the 1U two-socket rack server from Dell's 14th generation. Inner rails fit to the sides of the R640 chassis and outer rails fit to the front and rear posts of a four-post rack. The outer rails adjust for rack depth and installation is tool-less. Because the rails slide, the server can be drawn forward out of the rack to reach its top cover, so drive, memory, fan and riser work can be done without unracking the chassis or disturbing neighbouring units. Buyers in Qatar source this kit when an R640 arrives without rails, when rails were left behind in a decommissioned cabinet, or when a server moves between sites and needs mounting hardware at the destination. Integrators building R640 clusters in Doha and IT teams maintaining existing 14th generation estates use matching kits to keep mounting consistent across a row of 1U servers.

Rail kits are matched to the height and depth of a specific chassis, and rail types differ between PowerEdge models. This kit is sized for the R640.

Two-post telecom-style racks do not give the rear support a sliding rail needs to hold an extended server, so a different mounting solution is used there.
Specification
The R640 is a 1U chassis, so a server on these rails occupies a single rack unit and R640s can be stacked directly above one another. A sliding rail carries the server while it is extended, which needs support at both the front and rear posts; that is why the kit is for four-post racks.
Installation
Before installation day, measure the distance between the front and rear rack posts and check the rack's hole type, because mounting differs between rack designs. The outer rails latch onto the front and rear posts without screwdrivers, and the inner rails clip onto the sides of the R640 chassis. With both outer rails latched at the same rack unit on each side, align the inner rails with the outer rails and slide the server in until it locks. Lifting a loaded server onto rails is safer with two people. Leave enough slack in the power and network cables at the rear so the server can be drawn forward for service without pulling connections.

Ask on WhatsApp sales@serverdove.comWhich server are these rails for?
The kit is for the Dell PowerEdge R640, the 1U rack server from Dell's 14th generation. The inner rails attach to the sides of the R640 chassis and the outer rails mount to the rack posts. For other PowerEdge models, check Dell's rail sizing documentation for that model before ordering, as rail types differ between chassis heights and depths.
Do I need tools to install the R640 sliding rails?
No. The kit is designed for tool-less installation. The outer rails latch onto the rack posts and the inner rails clip onto the server chassis, so a server can usually be racked without screwdrivers. Check your rack's hole type and post layout before installation day, because mounting differs between rack designs.
Will these rails fit my rack depth?
The outer rails are adjustable for rack depth, which lets them span the front-to-rear post spacing of common server cabinets. Measure the distance between your front and rear posts and compare it with Dell's published range for R640 sliding rails. Very shallow or unusually deep cabinets are the cases worth checking first.
Can I use sliding rails in a two-post rack?
Sliding rails such as these are intended for four-post racks, where the rail is supported at both the front and rear posts. Two-post telecom-style racks do not give the rear support a sliding rail needs to carry a server extended out of the rack, so a different mounting solution is used there.
What is the advantage of sliding rails over static rails?
Sliding rails let the server be drawn forward out of the rack while still supported. With the R640 extended, the top cover can be removed to service memory, fans, risers and internal components without fully unracking the server. Static rails hold the chassis in place but generally require removing it from the rack for internal work.
How much rack space does an R640 on these rails take?
The R640 is a 1U server, and these rails are designed for that height, so the server occupies a single rack unit. This allows R640s to be stacked directly above one another in a cabinet, which suits dense virtualisation and compute deployments where rack space is limited.
What does refurbished mean at ServerDove?
Off-lease or decommissioned enterprise hardware that we clean, test and reset in Doha. Every unit goes through POST, burn-in, memory and drive checks and a power-supply check, with firmware and BIOS returned to defaults and drives securely erased.

Why buy refurbished
Enterprise hardware, tested in Doha, at a fraction of the price of new
Every unit we sell has already proven itself in a data centre. We test it again, grade it, and back it with a warranty before it leaves our stock.
Tested before it ships
POST, burn-in, memory and power-supply checks on every unit. Anything that fails is repaired or pulled from stock, not sold.
Same performance, lower cost
A Xeon runs the same workloads whether it is new or two years old. Spend the difference on more CPUs, memory or storage.
In stock, not on order
New enterprise hardware can take weeks or months to arrive. Ours is on the shelf in Doha and delivered across Qatar within a day.
Warranty and local support
Every unit is covered. Installation, configuration and hardware support are handled by our own team in Qatar, not a call centre abroad.
