This refurbished Dell PowerEdge R730, SKU SRV-DELL-R730-16SFF-BARE, is the 16SFF version of Dell's 13th generation 2U rack server. It has 16 x 2.5 inch front bays for SAS, SATA or SSD drives, two LGA2011-3 sockets for Intel Xeon E5-2600 v3 or v4 processors, DDR4 ECC registered memory support, PCIe 3.0 expansion and integrated iDRAC8 management. It is supplied with no CPU, no RAM and no drives. Buyers in Doha and across Qatar choose the R730 barebone when they already hold processors, DIMMs or drives, or want to specify each part for a virtualisation host, database server or storage-heavy application. The R730 belongs to Dell's 13th generation PowerEdge family, introduced in 2014. Memory runs at up to 2133 MT/s with v3 processors and up to 2400 MT/s with v4 processors.
What you need to add
A barebone needs its core components before it will boot. Plan the build around the workload: core count and memory for virtualisation, drive type for storage performance.
- One or two Intel Xeon E5-2600 v3 or v4 processors, with matching heatsinks. Both processors must be the same model.
- DDR4 ECC registered DIMMs, populated in balanced sets across both processors.
- 2.5 inch SAS, SATA or SSD drives, each in a Dell 13th generation 2.5 inch hot-plug carrier.
- A storage controller if your build needs RAID.
- Power supplies and power cords sized for your configuration, plus rack rails.
Compatibility
Fit Intel Xeon E5-2600 v3 or v4 processors only; earlier E5 generations use a different socket and will not fit. Use DDR4 ECC registered DIMMs and do not mix registered and load-reduced modules in the same server. Drives need Dell 13th generation 2.5 inch carriers, which also fit other 13th generation PowerEdge servers. Install a single processor first if you want to test the board, then add the second with its memory. Update the BIOS and iDRAC8 firmware before fitting v4 processors, as older firmware may not recognise them.
