A refurbished heatsink needs fresh thermal compound; the processor carrier clips may be reused if intact.
Specification
Tower servers have room for taller heatsinks than rack servers, and the T440 and T640 heatsink is a large finned unit that handles the full processor range of the platform with the chassis fans. LGA3647 processors mount by clipping into a carrier that attaches to the heatsink, so the whole assembly goes onto the socket at once and the four captive screws set the pressure. Rack server heatsinks do not fit these towers.
Installation
Power the server down and unplug it, open the side panel and remove the air shroud. Clip the processor into its carrier, attach the carrier to the heatsink, apply fresh thermal compound if the heatsink has no pad, and lower the assembly onto the socket, tightening the screws in the order marked on the heatsink. Refit the shroud and panel, boot, and confirm in iDRAC that both processors run at normal temperature.
