This is a refurbished Dell PowerEdge T440, SKU SRV-DELL-T440-6138-32GB-8TB-H330-02, a two-socket tower server from Dell's 14th generation PowerEdge range, built on the Intel Xeon Scalable platform. This unit is fitted with one Intel Xeon Gold 6138 (20 cores, 40 threads), 32GB of DDR4 ECC RDIMM memory, a Dell PERC H330 RAID controller and two 4TB HGST Ultrastar 12Gb/s SAS hard drives, giving 8TB of raw capacity. It suits offices in Doha and across Qatar that want one on-premises machine for file sharing, backups, CCTV archives and a few virtual machines, without needing a rack or a dedicated server room. The second processor socket and most of the memory slots are free, so the same chassis can grow with the business instead of being replaced.

What this configuration suits
Compare the workload you have in mind against the fitted components.
The two 4TB SAS drives fit a mirrored RAID 1 array on the PERC H330, giving 4TB of usable, protected space. That is a sensible base for a departmental file server, a backup target or a CCTV recording archive for a small site.
Twenty cores and 40 threads give plenty of headroom for a hypervisor running several light virtual machines, such as a domain controller, a print server and a small application server. With 32GB fitted, memory will run out before processor capacity does, so plan a memory upgrade before adding many virtual machines.
The H330 has no cache, so it is not the right controller for write-heavy databases or busy shared virtual disk storage. For those workloads, add SSDs or move to a cached controller. As a tower, it runs quietly enough for an office and needs no rack.
Upgrade paths
- Memory: the platform has 16 DIMM slots; the fitted 32GB uses only a few of them, leaving most slots free for further DDR4 ECC RDIMMs.
- Processor: the second socket is empty. Adding a second Xeon Gold 6138 doubles the cores to 40 and enables the 8 DIMM slots served by that processor.
- Storage: the chassis supports up to 8 x 3.5 inch or 16 x 2.5 inch drives, so further SAS or SATA drives can be added and the array expanded.
- Rack: an optional kit converts the tower to a 5U rack server if it later moves into a server room.
Compatibility
The T440 takes DDR4 ECC registered memory. Use RDIMMs to match the fitted modules, as RDIMMs and LRDIMMs cannot be mixed in the same server. A second processor must be the same model as the first, here a Xeon Gold 6138, and needs its own heatsink. Additional drives must be fitted in Dell 14th generation drive carriers that suit the bay size of the chassis. The PERC H330 accepts 12Gb/s SAS and 6Gb/s SATA drives, but keep drive types and capacities matched within an array.
