The Dell Precision T7910 is Dell's dual-processor tower workstation from the Xeon E5-2600 v3 generation, introduced in 2014 and later supported with E5-2600 v4 processors. This refurbished unit, SKU WS-DELL-T7910-BARE, is supplied as a barebone with no CPU, no RAM and no storage fitted. The platform takes two LGA2011-3 processors on the Intel C612 chipset, DDR4 ECC Registered memory across 16 DIMM slots, PCIe 3.0 expansion cards, and NVMe, SATA SSD and HDD storage. It suits system builders, resellers and IT teams in Qatar who already hold compatible Xeon processors and DDR4 RDIMMs, or who want to specify every component themselves for CAD, rendering, simulation or data analysis work. The T7910 belongs to the Haswell-EP and Broadwell-EP generation of dual-socket Xeon platforms. Memory speed depends on the processor fitted: v3 processors run DDR4 at up to 2133 MT/s, v4 processors at up to 2400 MT/s.
What you need to add
The chassis arrives ready for your own components. Plan the processor and memory together, because memory population follows the processors fitted. Before fitting E5-2600 v4 processors, make sure the BIOS is at a current release, as v4 support was added after launch. Install the operating system after the hardware is complete and the BIOS has detected all memory and drives.
- One or two Intel Xeon E5-2600 v3 or v4 processors (LGA2011-3), with matching heatsinks if none are fitted
- DDR4 ECC Registered DIMMs, ideally in identical sets per processor
- Storage: NVMe, SATA SSD or SATA HDD, with drive carriers where the bays require them
- A graphics card or other PCIe 3.0 add-in cards for your workload
- A power cord and an operating system licence
Compatibility
Memory must be DDR4 ECC Registered. Do not mix RDIMMs and LRDIMMs in the same system, and keep module size and rank the same within each processor's slots for best results. With a single processor fitted, only the DIMM slots and PCIe slots wired to that processor are usable, so fit both processors if you need the full memory and expansion capacity.
Both processors must be the same model and stepping. Storage can be NVMe for the operating system and active projects, with SATA SSDs or HDDs for capacity. PCIe 3.0 cards, including full-length graphics cards, fit the expansion slots, but check the total power draw of high-end GPUs against the power supply before ordering.
