About this drive

HGST 8TB 7.2K 12Gb/s SAS 3.5 inch enterprise hard drive, model 0F25733, a hot-plug data centre capacity drive for servers, refurbished.

This HGST 8TB hard drive, model 0F25733, is a 3.5 inch enterprise capacity drive spinning at 7,200 rpm on a 12Gb/s SAS interface, built for continuous operation in data centre servers and storage shelves and supporting hot-plug. HGST, now part of Western Digital, made the Ultrastar drives that fill backup and archive servers around the world, and this is one of them. It is refurbished and sold as a bare drive. Buyers in Qatar use the 8TB HGST SAS drive to build capacity servers, eight of them giving 64TB raw in a 2U chassis, and to replace failed members of existing arrays. ServerDove keeps it in Doha stock and fits it to its own assembled storage servers.

Eight terabytes on a 7.2K spindle means a rebuild after a failure takes many hours, which is why arrays of these drives are built in RAID 6 or with a hot spare. Sequential throughput above 200 megabytes per second per drive makes a set of them a fast backup target when fed over 10GbE.

The drive is the same model ServerDove uses in its own 64TB StoreEasy storage server, eight per chassis, so buyers of that server can extend or repair it with an identical part from the same stock. As with all high capacity SAS drives it is dual ported, which matters in external shelves with redundant controllers, and it is rated for round the clock operation at a workload rate of hundreds of terabytes per year.

Installation

Fit the drive in the 3.5 inch caddy of the server, which is not included, and hot-plug it into a bay; the SAS controller identifies it and, if it replaces a failed member, starts the rebuild automatically or on command. For a new array, use drives of the same model and capacity, choose RAID 6 for eight or more, and let the initial synchronisation finish before loading data. Keep firmware current where the vendor provides updates.

Why buy refurbished

Enterprise hardware, tested in Doha, at a fraction of the price of new

Every unit we sell has already proven itself in a data centre. We test it again, grade it, and back it with a warranty before it leaves our stock.

Talk to our team

Tested before it ships

POST, burn-in, memory and power-supply checks on every unit. Anything that fails is repaired or pulled from stock, not sold.

Same performance, lower cost

A Xeon runs the same workloads whether it is new or two years old. Spend the difference on more CPUs, memory or storage.

In stock, not on order

New enterprise hardware can take weeks or months to arrive. Ours is on the shelf in Doha and delivered across Qatar within a day.

Warranty and local support

Every unit is covered. Installation, configuration and hardware support are handled by our own team in Qatar, not a call centre abroad.
