The HP Z440 is the single processor member of HP's Z series workstations for the DDR4 generation. Its one LGA2011-3 socket takes an Intel Xeon E5-1600 v3 or v4 processor, the workstation part with higher clock speeds, or an E5-2600 v3 or v4 server processor for more cores. Eight DIMM slots hold DDR4 ECC Registered memory, PCIe 3.0 slots take full length graphics cards, and the bays accept NVMe, SATA SSD and hard drive storage. It is supplied with no CPU, no RAM and no storage. For engineering and design desks in Qatar the Z440 is the sensible refurbished workstation: quiet, compact, with ECC memory and a certified graphics slot, at a cost well below a dual socket tower. What you need to add
The Z440 takes the same processors and memory as 13th generation servers, so parts are easy to find. Choose the E5-1600 series for clock speed or the E5-2600 series for cores; both fit the single socket.

- An NVMe M.2 SSD on the Z Turbo Drive adapter or a SATA SSD for the operating system, plus hard drives for data
- An operating system licence
v4 processors need Z440 system firmware from 2016 or later. Memory runs at 2133 MT/s with v3 and 2400 MT/s with v4 processors.
Compatibility
Processors and memory are shared with the dual socket Z series of the same generation and with 13th generation servers; heatsinks, power supply and drive carriers are specific to the Z440.
