HPE made two heatsinks for the DL360 Gen9: a standard one for processors up to 135W and a high performance one for the hotter parts. Heatsinks are matched to the chassis airflow and mounting pattern, so a DL380 Gen9 or Gen8 heatsink does not fit this server. A DL360 Gen9 also needs its second processor fan set fitted when the second socket is populated, which HPE supplies separately.
The heatsink is a low profile copper and aluminium unit sized to the 1U chassis height, with captive spring loaded screws that set the correct mounting pressure automatically, so no torque tool is needed. HPE ships new heatsinks with a thermal pad already applied; a refurbished one needs a fresh application of thermal compound before use, and the old compound must be cleaned from the processor if it is being reused.
Installation
Power the server down and unplug it, remove the lid and the air baffle over the processors. Fit the processor to the socket first, then apply thermal compound in a thin even layer, or use the pre-applied pad if the heatsink has one, and lower the heatsink squarely onto the processor. Tighten the four captive screws in a cross pattern to the stop, refit the baffle and lid, and check after boot that iLO reports both processors at normal temperature.
