The DL380 Gen9 fan bay holds six hot-plug fans, of which a single processor server uses four; the second processor's two fans go in the remaining positions and the system firmware expects them, refusing to run at full performance with the second socket populated and fans missing. The standard heatsink covers processors up to 135W; the hottest v4 parts use HPE's high performance heatsink instead.

Installation
Power off and unplug the server, remove the lid and the processor air baffle. Fit the second processor, apply thermal compound, seat the heatsink and tighten its captive screws in a cross pattern. Remove the two fan blanks and press the fans into their bays until they latch; they are hot-plug and need no cables. Refit the baffle and lid, boot, and confirm in iLO that both processors and all six fans are reported.
