This is the 8SFF chassis of the HPE ProLiant DL360 Gen10, HPE's 1U dual-socket rack server from the Gen10 generation, built around Intel Xeon Scalable processors on two LGA3647 sockets. It is supplied as a refurbished barebone with no CPU, no RAM and no drives, so you choose the processors, memory and storage for the workload. The front takes 8 x 2.5 inch SFF drives (SAS, SATA or SSD), memory is DDR4 ECC Registered, expansion is PCIe 3.0, and remote management is through integrated iLO5. Typical buyers are system builders and IT teams in Qatar who want a dense 1U host for virtualisation, databases or application servers, or a matching chassis for an existing DL360 Gen10 estate where processors and memory are already on hand. The DL360 Gen10 was released in 2017 and accepts both the first and second generation of Intel Xeon Scalable processors. Each processor drives six memory channels and twelve DIMM slots, so the second socket must be populated to use all 24 slots and the full PCIe slot count.
What you need to add
The chassis arrives without processors, memory or drives. Plan the build as a complete list before ordering parts, because processor generation decides memory speed and the drive type decides the controller.
- One or two Intel Xeon Scalable processors (first or second generation) for LGA3647, with a heatsink for each populated socket. Two processors must be the same model.
- DDR4 ECC Registered memory, RDIMM or LRDIMM. Do not mix the two types in one server.
- 2.5 inch SFF drives (SAS, SATA or SSD), each mounted in an HPE SFF drive carrier.
- An HPE Smart Array controller if you plan to run SAS drives or hardware RAID.
Populate memory evenly across the six channels of each processor for full bandwidth; six or twelve DIMMs per processor is the usual layout. A single processor build works, but half the DIMM slots and part of the PCIe expansion stay unavailable. Update the system ROM and iLO5 firmware before installing an operating system, particularly when fitting second generation processors.
Compatibility
Components shared across the ProLiant Gen10 family fit this chassis, which makes it straightforward to build from parts already used in other Gen10 servers. Drive carriers from Gen8 and Gen9 SFF servers are a different design and should not be assumed to fit. Memory must be DDR4 Registered or Load Reduced with ECC; unbuffered desktop DIMMs will not work. Power supplies must be HPE Flexible Slot units, and a redundant pair must be the same wattage.
