This is a refurbished HPE ProLiant DL380 Gen9 in the 8SFF configuration, sold as a barebone under SKU SRV-HP-DL380G9-8SFF-BARE with no processor, memory or drives fitted. The DL380 Gen9 is HPE's ninth-generation 2U, two-socket rack server, introduced in 2014. It is built on the LGA2011-3 socket for Intel Xeon E5-2600 v3 and v4 processors and takes DDR4 ECC Registered memory. This 8 SFF chassis has eight 2.5 inch front bays for SAS, SATA or SSD drives, PCIe 3.0 expansion and integrated iLO4 remote management. System builders and IT teams in Doha buy it to assemble a server to their own specification, or to replace a damaged DL380 Gen9 chassis while reusing the processors, DIMMs and drives from the old one. Buying the barebone avoids paying for parts that would be swapped out, and keeps the build on a widely deployed platform with a large supply of spare parts in Qatar and abroad.

The DL380 Gen9 belongs to the Xeon E5-2600 v3 and v4 generation. Memory speed depends on the processor fitted: v4 processors run DDR4 at up to 2400 MT/s, v3 processors at up to 2133 MT/s. Half of the DIMM slots and the secondary riser only work with the second processor installed.
What you need to add
The chassis arrives without processors, memory or drives, so plan the build before ordering parts.
- One or two Intel Xeon E5-2600 v3 or v4 processors with DL380 Gen9 heatsinks. Two processors must be the same model.
- DDR4 ECC Registered or Load Reduced DIMMs, matched to the processor generation.
- 2.5 inch SAS, SATA or SSD drives, each in an HPE SmartDrive carrier.
- A Smart Array controller if you plan to run SAS drives or need hardware RAID with cache.
- One or two Flex Slot power supplies of the same wattage, and rack rails.
Do not mix v3 and v4 processors in one server. Do not mix RDIMMs and LRDIMMs. With a single processor, populate only the DIMM slots for socket one and use the primary riser. The embedded controller handles SATA drives only, so SAS builds need a Smart Array card.
Compatibility
Gen9 shares its drive carriers with Gen8, so drives already mounted in Gen8 SmartDrive carriers fit this chassis directly. Older G7 and earlier carriers do not fit.

Flex Slot supplies replaced the Common Slot units of earlier ProLiant generations, and the two are not interchangeable. Both supplies in a redundant pair should be the same wattage. Use HPE-qualified DIMMs where possible, as the server reports unrecognised memory through iLO4. Update the system ROM before fitting v4 processors to a board that previously ran v3.
