The StoreEasy 1650 is HPE's 2U rack storage server for NAS and file serving. It is built on the Intel Xeon E5-2600 v3 and v4 platform with the LGA2011-3 socket and iLO 4 management, the same generation as ProLiant Gen9. This unit has 12 x 3.5 inch LFF front drive bays and integrated HPE Smart Array RAID. It comes without memory and without drives. It suits IT teams who want a capacity-focused file server or backup target and prefer to choose their own DDR4 ECC registered DIMMs and large form factor drives. It is also a straightforward way to add a matching unit to an existing StoreEasy estate or to replace a failed chassis.

The chassis is supplied empty of memory and drives, so the build is set by what you fit. The platform belongs to the Xeon E5-2600 v3 and v4 generation, which means DDR4 memory and iLO 4 for out-of-band management.

It fits departmental file shares, a central repository for scanned documents and project files, and a disk backup target for an existing backup application. Large form factor drives give the lowest cost per terabyte, and Smart Array RAID 6 across twelve drives keeps the array online through two drive failures.
The LFF bay layout favours capacity over spindle count, and a busy virtual machine store is usually better served by a small form factor or flash-based system.
Because memory and drives are your choice, the same chassis can be built as a modest file server or as a larger repository with more cache memory for heavier client loads.
Upgrade paths
- All 12 LFF drive bays are free, so capacity can be planned from the start and grown in RAID-sized steps.
- Memory is unfitted: populate with DDR4 ECC registered DIMMs sized for the number of clients and the caching you need.
- Processor ceiling is the Intel Xeon E5-2600 v4 family; v4 parts also raise supported memory speed to 2400 MT/s.
- iLO 4 advanced features can be enabled with an HPE iLO Advanced licence if remote console use is required.
Compatibility
Memory must be DDR4 ECC registered DIMMs; unbuffered and desktop modules will not work. Use identical DIMMs within a channel and populate evenly across processors where more than one CPU is fitted. Processors must be Intel Xeon E5-2600 v3 or v4 parts for the LGA2011-3 socket, and earlier E5-2600 v1 or v2 chips will not fit. Drives are 3.5 inch SAS or SATA units in HPE LFF carriers that match this generation, and each drive must be fitted in a carrier before it is inserted. Update the system ROM and Smart Array firmware before fitting v4 processors or large drives so that both are recognised correctly.
