Intel Xeon Gold 6248 20-core 2.50GHz LGA3647 processor for 2nd Generation Xeon Scalable servers such as the Dell PowerEdge R640.
The Xeon Gold 6248 is a 20-core, 40-thread processor from Intel's 2nd Generation Xeon Scalable family, codenamed Cascade Lake. It fits socket LGA3647 (FCLGA3647) and runs at a 2.50GHz base clock with a 3.90GHz single-core turbo, 27.5MB of shared cache and a 150W TDP. It goes into dual- and quad-socket rack servers, including the Dell PowerEdge R640, R740 and R840. IT teams in Qatar buy this refurbished processor to populate a barebone chassis, add a second CPU to a single-socket build, or replace a lower-core part in an existing Scalable platform. It suits virtualisation hosts, database servers and consolidation work, where core count matters but per-thread speed still counts. Because it shares the socket with first-generation Skylake-SP parts, it is also a common upgrade for those systems. Serverdove in Doha lists it under SKU CPU-INTEL-XEON-6248.
CPU-INTEL-XEON-6248Will it fit my system?
Gold 6200 series processors support up to four sockets, so the same part fits both two-socket and four-socket PowerEdge models of the 14th generation.
| Server | Generation | Note |
|---|---|---|
| PowerEdge R640 | 14th generation | 1U, up to 2 processors |
| PowerEdge R740 | 14th generation | 2U, up to 2 processors |
| PowerEdge R840 | 14th generation | 2U, up to 4 processors |
The server BIOS must support 2nd Generation Xeon Scalable processors. Mixed processor models in one system are not supported, so every processor in a multi-socket host must be a Gold 6248; a Skylake part such as the Gold 6148 cannot be paired with it.
Specification
The 6248 is the Cascade Lake successor to the Gold 6148: the same 20 cores, 27.5MB cache and 150W TDP, with higher clocks and DDR4-2933 support in place of DDR4-2666. Each processor drives six memory channels and 48 PCIe 3.0 lanes, so a dual-socket host has twelve channels and 96 lanes for NVMe drives, network adapters, RAID controllers and GPUs.
Memory speed in practice depends on the server, the DIMM type and how many DIMMs are installed per channel. Faster modules run at 2933 MT/s or below.
Installation
The processor is not hot-pluggable: shut the server down, disconnect power and observe anti-static precautions. LGA3647 processors mount in a carrier clip that attaches to the heatsink, and the assembly is then fitted to the socket; use a carrier and heatsink designed for the server model, plus fresh thermal compound. On a server that shipped with first-generation Scalable processors, update the BIOS to a release that supports Cascade Lake before fitting the 6248. When adding a second processor, check whether the system needs additional fans or memory populated on the new socket. Spread DIMMs evenly across each processor's six channels to get full memory bandwidth.

Ask on WhatsApp sales@serverdove.comWhich servers use the Xeon Gold 6248?
It is used in LGA3647 servers that support 2nd Generation Xeon Scalable processors, including the Dell PowerEdge R640, R740 and R840. It also suits other C620-chipset platforms from the same generation. Check the server's processor support list and confirm the BIOS supports Cascade Lake before ordering.
Can a Gold 6248 replace a first-generation Xeon Scalable processor?
Yes, in most cases. It shares the LGA3647 socket with Skylake-SP parts such as the Gold 6148, and many Skylake servers accept Cascade Lake after a BIOS update. In a dual-socket system both processors must be the same model, so a Skylake chip cannot be paired with a 6248.
How does the Gold 6248 differ from the Gold 6148?
Both have 20 cores and 27.5MB of cache in a 150W TDP. The 6248 is the Cascade Lake successor: it runs a 2.50GHz base clock against 2.40GHz, turbos to 3.90GHz against 3.70GHz, and supports DDR4-2933 memory instead of DDR4-2666. It also adds Intel Optane persistent memory support.
What memory speed does the Xeon Gold 6248 support?
The processor supports DDR4 up to 2933 MT/s across six memory channels per socket. The speed achieved in practice depends on the server platform, the DIMM type and how many DIMMs are installed per channel. Faster modules will run at 2933 MT/s or below.
Does the Gold 6248 work in a four-socket server?
Yes. Gold 6200 series processors support configurations of up to four sockets, which is why the 6248 is used in quad-socket systems such as the Dell PowerEdge R840. Silver and Bronze parts from the same generation are limited to two sockets.
What else is needed to install this processor?
LGA3647 processors mount in a carrier clip that attaches to the heatsink before the assembly is fitted to the socket. Use a carrier and heatsink designed for the server model, plus fresh thermal compound. A second processor may also need additional fans or memory to be populated, depending on the system.
How many PCIe lanes does the Xeon Gold 6248 provide?
Each processor provides 48 PCIe 3.0 lanes, so a dual-socket server has 96 lanes for NVMe drives, network adapters, RAID controllers and GPUs. How those lanes are allocated to slots and onboard devices depends on the server's motherboard and riser configuration.
What does refurbished mean at ServerDove?
Off-lease or decommissioned enterprise hardware that we clean, test and reset in Doha. Every unit goes through POST, burn-in, memory and drive checks and a power-supply check, with firmware and BIOS returned to defaults and drives securely erased.
Can I ask about the exact unit before I buy?
Yes. Message us the SKU on WhatsApp and we will confirm the condition and configuration of the unit in stock, with photos if you want them.

Every unit we sell has already proven itself in a data centre. We test it again, grade it, and back it with a warranty before it leaves our stock.
Tested before it ships
POST, burn-in, memory and power-supply checks on every unit. Anything that fails is repaired or pulled from stock, not sold.
Same performance, lower cost
A Xeon runs the same workloads whether it is new or two years old. Spend the difference on more CPUs, memory or storage.
In stock, not on order
New enterprise hardware can take weeks or months to arrive. Ours is on the shelf in Doha and delivered across Qatar within a day.
Warranty and local support
Every unit is covered. Installation, configuration and hardware support are handled by our own team in Qatar, not a call centre abroad.
