Samsung 16GB DDR4-2133 ECC RDIMM, PC4-2133P registered memory for Dell PowerEdge 13th generation and HPE ProLiant Gen9 servers.
This is a Samsung 16GB registered ECC DDR4 module, ServerDove SKU RAM-SAMSUNG-16G-2133, built to the JEDEC PC4-2133P specification and also sold as PC4-17000 or DDR4-2133. It is a dual-rank 2Rx4, 288-pin RDIMM running at 1.2V and 2133MT/s. That is the memory type behind the Intel Xeon E5 v3 and v4 platform used in Dell PowerEdge 13th generation and HPE ProLiant Gen9 servers. Many of these machines shipped from the factory with 16GB 2133MT/s RDIMMs, so this module suits like-for-like replacement of a DIMM flagged by iDRAC or iLO, as well as filling empty slots in an existing build. IT teams in Doha and elsewhere in Qatar use refurbished modules like this to extend the life of PowerEdge and ProLiant fleets, add capacity to virtualisation hosts, database and file servers, or keep a matching spare on the shelf for quick repairs.
RAM-SAMSUNG-16G-2133Will it fit my system?
These servers are built on Xeon E5-2600 v3 and v4 processors and use 288-pin DDR4 registered ECC memory, the module type this RDIMM belongs to. On a dual-socket host, twelve modules give 192GB and twenty-four give 384GB.
| Server | Generation | Note |
|---|---|---|
| PowerEdge R630 | 13th generation | Xeon E5-2600 v3 and v4, DDR4 RDIMM |
| PowerEdge R730 | 13th generation | Xeon E5-2600 v3 and v4, DDR4 RDIMM |
| PowerEdge R730xd | 13th generation | Xeon E5-2600 v3 and v4, DDR4 RDIMM |
| ProLiant DL360 Gen9 | Gen9 | Xeon E5-2600 v3 and v4, DDR4 RDIMM |
| ProLiant DL380 Gen9 | Gen9 | Xeon E5-2600 v3 and v4, DDR4 RDIMM |
Do not mix RDIMMs with LRDIMMs in the same server, as neither Dell nor HPE supports it. Xeon E5 v1 and v2 servers, such as PowerEdge 12th generation and ProLiant Gen8, use 240-pin DDR3 and cannot take this module.
Specification
The P in PC4-2133P is the JEDEC timing grade for the 2133MT/s speed bin. Peak bandwidth is roughly 17GB/s per module. Xeon E5 v3 and v4 processors have four memory channels per socket, so total bandwidth scales when every channel is populated evenly.
Installation
Memory is not hot-plug. Shut the server down, remove the power cords and wait for the standby lights to go out before opening the chassis. Follow the Dell or HPE slot population order for your CPU count, and fill channels evenly across both processors. Keep speed, capacity and rank matched within each set: a 2400MT/s or 2666MT/s RDIMM sharing a channel with this module will run at 2133MT/s. Open the slot latches, align the notch, press the module down until both latches close, then check that iDRAC or iLO reports the expected total capacity after boot.

Ask on WhatsApp sales@serverdove.comWhat does PC4-2133P mean on this Samsung 16GB module?
PC4 identifies the module as DDR4, and 2133 is its data rate of 2133 megatransfers per second. The P is the JEDEC timing grade for this speed bin. The same speed is also sold as PC4-17000, which refers to its peak bandwidth of roughly 17GB/s. When adding to an existing server, matching the PC4-2133P rating helps keep every channel running at the same speed.
Will this RDIMM work in Dell PowerEdge R630 or R730 servers?
The PowerEdge R630, R730 and R730xd are 13th generation Dell servers built on Intel Xeon E5-2600 v3 and v4 processors. They use 288-pin DDR4 registered ECC memory, the module type this Samsung 16GB DDR4-2133 RDIMM belongs to. Populate DIMMs according to Dell's slot population guidelines for your CPU count. Do not mix RDIMMs with LRDIMMs in the same server.
Can I use this memory in HPE ProLiant Gen9 servers?
HPE ProLiant Gen9 models such as the DL360 Gen9 and DL380 Gen9 are built on the Xeon E5-2600 v3 and v4 platform and use DDR4 registered ECC DIMMs. This 16GB 2133MT/s module is the type of memory those systems are designed around. Follow HPE's population rules and keep RDIMMs separate from LRDIMMs. Mixing the two types is not supported.
Can I mix this 2133MT/s module with faster DDR4 RDIMMs?
Usually yes, as long as all modules are DDR4 registered ECC. However, the memory controller runs every DIMM in a channel at the speed of the slowest module, so 2400MT/s or 2666MT/s RDIMMs will drop to 2133MT/s alongside this one. For predictable performance and easier troubleshooting, use matching speed, capacity and rank configuration across each set of channels.
Will this work in a desktop PC or with non-ECC memory?
This is a registered ECC module, and most consumer desktop motherboards and processors do not support registered memory, so it will generally not work in a standard desktop. It should also not be mixed with unbuffered non-ECC DIMMs. It is intended for server and workstation platforms that support DDR4 RDIMMs, such as Intel Xeon E5 v3 and v4 systems.
Is DDR4 RDIMM memory backwards compatible with DDR3 slots?
No. DDR4 modules have 288 pins and a different notch position from 240-pin DDR3 DIMMs, so they will not physically fit a DDR3 slot. They also use different signalling and run at 1.2V rather than DDR3's higher voltage. Servers from the Xeon E5 v1 and v2 generations, such as Dell PowerEdge 12th generation and HPE ProLiant Gen8, require DDR3 and cannot use this module.
How much total memory can I build with 16GB modules?
That depends on how many DIMM slots your server has. A dual-socket Xeon E5 v3 or v4 server with 24 slots can reach 384GB using 16GB RDIMMs, and 12 modules give 192GB. Fill channels evenly across both processors for the best memory bandwidth. Check your server's documentation for maximum supported capacity and slot population order.
What is the difference between an RDIMM and an LRDIMM?
An RDIMM buffers only the command and address signals through a register, while an LRDIMM also buffers the data lines. That extra buffering lets LRDIMMs reach higher capacities per module, at some cost in latency and price. For 16GB modules, RDIMMs like this one are the usual choice. The two types cannot be mixed in the same server.

Why buy refurbished
Enterprise hardware, tested in Doha, at a fraction of the price of new
Every unit we sell has already proven itself in a data centre. We test it again, grade it, and back it with a warranty before it leaves our stock.
Tested before it ships
POST, burn-in, memory and power-supply checks on every unit. Anything that fails is repaired or pulled from stock, not sold.
Same performance, lower cost
A Xeon runs the same workloads whether it is new or two years old. Spend the difference on more CPUs, memory or storage.
In stock, not on order
New enterprise hardware can take weeks or months to arrive. Ours is on the shelf in Doha and delivered across Qatar within a day.
Warranty and local support
Every unit is covered. Installation, configuration and hardware support are handled by our own team in Qatar, not a call centre abroad.
