About this drive

Seagate ST32000444SS, a 2TB 7.2K SAS 3.5 inch enterprise hard drive for servers and storage arrays, refurbished.

The Seagate ST32000444SS is a 2TB 3.5 inch nearline hard drive from Seagate's Constellation ES family, spinning at 7,200 rpm on a SAS interface. Nearline drives are the enterprise class built for capacity rather than speed: designed for continuous operation in servers and storage arrays, with the SAS interface's dual port and error handling that consumer SATA drives lack. This one is refurbished and sold as a single drive. Buyers in Qatar use the ST32000444SS to replace a failed drive in an older server or storage shelf where the array was built from this exact model, or to fill large form factor bays in a backup server cheaply. ServerDove keeps it in Doha stock for those repairs and builds.

Specification

A 7.2K SAS drive delivers sequential throughput in the range of a hundred megabytes per second or more and modest random performance; it belongs in RAID sets for capacity, not in a database volume.

SAS drives of this class connect to a SAS RAID controller or host bus adapter; they do not work on a plain SATA port. In a RAID array, keep replacements to the same model where possible so capacity and geometry match the surviving members exactly.

Two terabytes is small by current standards, and that is the point of buying it: arrays built a decade ago from 2TB drives cannot take a larger replacement without rebuilding the set, so a matching drive keeps them running. For new builds, larger drives on the same interface cost little more per unit, so this drive is best reserved for repairs and for the low capacity backup roles where it is still adequate.

Installation

Fit the drive in the caddy that belongs to the server or shelf it is going into; caddies are not included and are specific to each vendor. Hot-plug bays accept the drive while the system is running: slide it in until the latch clicks and wait for the controller to recognise it, then assign it as a replacement or hot spare in the RAID configuration. A rebuild onto a 2TB nearline drive takes several hours; leave the array undisturbed until it completes.

Why buy refurbished

Enterprise hardware, tested in Doha, at a fraction of the price of new

Every unit we sell has already proven itself in a data centre. We test it again, grade it, and back it with a warranty before it leaves our stock.

Talk to our team

Tested before it ships

POST, burn-in, memory and power-supply checks on every unit. Anything that fails is repaired or pulled from stock, not sold.

Same performance, lower cost

A Xeon runs the same workloads whether it is new or two years old. Spend the difference on more CPUs, memory or storage.

In stock, not on order

New enterprise hardware can take weeks or months to arrive. Ours is on the shelf in Doha and delivered across Qatar within a day.

Warranty and local support

Every unit is covered. Installation, configuration and hardware support are handled by our own team in Qatar, not a call centre abroad.
